Beauty Blender – The Trial

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 19 - 2010

I’m about to lock away my foundation brushes, stippling brushes and buffing brushes.

I’m doing a full-on swap for these:

The infamous Beauty Blender!

I bought 2 of these a while back and have used them a couple of times when I’ve been away from home and not wanted to carry too much makeup with me.  They’ve performed well, but as soon as I’ve gotten home they’ve been washed and popped back in the drawer whilst my full attention returned to my brushes.

I was going to review them as is.  I’ve used them 5/6 times… washed them, gotten a feel of how they work best for me and I really, really like them.  But if I like them SO much, why are they not in constant use now?

Over the next week, I’ll be limiting myself solely to these and asking myself the simple question: Why would I recommend you buy these when a brush works so well?

I don’t know the answer yet, I just know I’m pleased I bought them.  Anyone have any specific questions about the Beauty Blender that I can help answer whilst trialling?

Can I also draw your attention back to the questions for a Benefit MUA post?  I’m compiling an email for her this weekend, so it’s your last chance!

I’m coveting a Beauty Blender, but I’m usually perfectly happy applying my foundation with a brush or my fingers, so I think it might be a waste of money for me…. So I’ll be waiting for the results with baited breath!

  2. I want to know a few things (brace yourself!)

    – How well it applies powder foundation, as well as liquid

    – How well it works for applying foundation (whether liquid or powder) when you dab the foundation on your face first, compared to if you dab it on the beauty blender first

    – How well it works with cream/stick foundations as well as concealers of any consistency

    – Does it apply enough product and is it even enough in the under-eye area and the sides of the nose?

    – Can you use it to apply blush or will it just make the wearer look like a clown?

    – How much product is wasted by it getting absorbed into the sponge?

    – How easy is it to clean, and do you really need to bother with the ~special cleanser it comes with?

And ummmm I think thats it LOL :)

  3. And just one more, I swear XD :

    – If you use the BB wet to apply foundation (liquid, powder, cream, whatever) how much is wasted by getting absorbed into the sponge. Marginally different from one of my previous questions ;]

  4. Ally says:

Oooh i love your dedication..one week with just a beauty blender?! I have a question..is it just a basic old sponge?

Lol no my question is..what is the longevity of the BB..ie how many uses until its deemed no more?

Reason i ask is although everybody loves it..its so freakin expensive if its going to be thrown away after a couple of months.

    Thanks, ally

  5. I’d love to see an explanation/comparison of how this differs from a normal wedge-shaped sponge. Obviously, the shape is different, and I know there’s a rolling/stippling method to using the blender, but when I use old school wedges, I use them
in a stippling motion anyway…and I second the curiosity behind how much product is wasted w/ the blender. Back in the day when foundation brushes were just coming onto the scene, saving product was a big selling point.

Can’t wait to see the review!

  6. Deborah says:

I’m curious to see how it works for you love. I’m just not keen on sponges in general. I’m such a brush girl. Perhaps I’m a brush snob…gahhh! looking forward to reading it anyway!

  7. Sarah says:

I think SilhouetteScreams covered most of my questions. One more though – when you have washed it, is it a bugger to get dry again? The surface area/volume ratio makes me think that the middle of it might stay wet inside and harbour bacteria.

  8. I think the beauty blender is brilliant – it’s made me finally love MUFE HD foundation – flawless application…finally!

    Looking forward to your review.

Oooh well everyone has actually asked you everything I wanted to kow about this! I’ve been thinking about sponges lately, and I can’t remember when it was exactly that i stopped using one, I just never ever thinkin to use one now, it’s either my fingers, or a brush if i’m in the mood for effort. So yeah, basically i’d love to see the answers to these guys’ questions!!!
