Do you lighten up for the Summer?

Posted by Lipglossiping On May - 21 - 2010

I received the press release for Urban Decay‘s new tinted moisturiser range that’ll be hitting our shores soon and it’s got me thinking…

Do you swap your base product for something lighter in the Summer?

I have a couple of tinted moisturisers on the go throughout the year, but I tend to reach for them more often in the Summer.

I don’t feel that my skin is clear enough (I get redness) to completely rely on a tinted moisturiser, so I tend to use a concealer brush to blend a little foundation over my nose and cheeks.  I’m also not a huge fan of the ‘shine’ that tinted moisturiser always brings to my face.  I need a top notch setting powder to hand with a couple of touch-ups throughout the day.

I do love the lighter feeling though… Oh, why must everything be a compromise?

Urban Defense from Urban Decay will be hitting shelves in Debenhams and Boots soon, priced at £17 for 50ml and could hopefully put the compromising to an end!

Do you opt for tinted moisturisers in the Summer or are you a hardcore full-coverage addict?

Winter is when I can get away with using next to nothing on my skin; summer heat means coverage! I like the idea of a lighter product, but I know nothing sheer will stay put on my skin in hot weather long enough to matter.

  2. Justine says:

I wear tinted moisturizer 95% of the time (if I’m not wearing it, I’m not wearing anything other than sunscreen, generally) since I’m fortunate, but Dior discontinued my HG line so now I have to look for a new one… might head to Sephora to get samples of these!

  3. Eden Blue says:

I lighten up when my skin behaves, regardless of the weather. If I sweat, I wear deodorant on my face and then whatever coverage I need on top of that.

  4. Rachel says:

I’m a mineral makeup girl all year round at the moment, perfect for summer! :) xx

  5. Louise says:

Hmm… i dont tend to swap my base for some lighter, although i do drop the powder in summer as my skin doesnt really need an extra layer.

    L xo

  6. I have this in bodyguard, and it’s excellent. I didn’t expect much coverage but it evened out my skin nicely. Not too oily but didn’t cling to any dry bits. Slightly chalky consistency but well worth it for a good tinted moisturiser!

  7. Lora says:

I use full coverage (MAC Studio Fix) in Winter/Spring and mineral foundation (MAC Mineralize Foundation) in Summer/Autumn. xx

  8. Jenni says:

Full coverage on my combination skin. I like a matte finish. I can never get it matte enough frankly.

    hardcore full-coverage addict anytime.
it’s never too hot here anyway so lots of make is never a problem
this looks like a paint spray can? xx

  10. Sara says:

I use tinted moisturizer all year long, no foundation for me! 😉

  11. In summer I only use concealer as I usually go brown enough to look alright without base. Plus I’m a sweaty betty so anything else just slides off me!

  12. Lillian says:

I’ve only started using foundation at all, i used to just wear a tinted moisturiser year round (if anything). That packaging is horrible, so odd UD usually have the nicest packaging.

  13. Olivia says:

I use only concealer most of the time (because I’m seventeen), plus i’m a little wary of using my current foundation because I have oily skin and hate shine. I love Urban Decay & since I need a new foundation anyway I’ll definitely have to check this out!

  14. I HAVE to lighten up my base in summer, or it will completely slide off in the Aussie heat D: but I’m a bit the same, I find myself mixing my tinted moisturiser with some mineral foundation to get more coverage

  15. Summer says:

I prefer lighter coverage, especially in the summer when it’s hot and you don’t want your makeup sliding off your face…
I can’t wait to try this tinted moisturiser, I’m a bit UD fan :)

I tend to go for a lighter base in the summer, it just seems “right”!
