MAC MSF in Petticoat

Posted by Lipglossiping On June - 26 - 2010

I thought it might be useful if I did this post ahead of the upcoming MAC In The Groove Collection which is due for release on the 1st July.

The rather lovely Karleigh wanted a shot of my pale arse wearing it. Well, not my ‘arse’… that would be enough to send global MAC sales plummeting. I mean… oh, you know what I mean.

Anyway, I’m gonna show you my FOTD and then I’m gonna link you to one of my fav bloggers who’s got a fabulous shot showing the shimmer far better than I was able to… so read on!

MAC’s Petticoat Mineralize Skin Finish was first released in 2005 before being re-released as part of 2008’s Sheer Mineral collection.  A fairly sought-after MSF, it’s making waves again in the make-up community thanks to it’s forthcoming 2nd re-release as part of the In The Groove collection.

MAC Petticoat is pretty hard to describe.  On me… it’s quite a bronzy pink.  As you can see, my Petticoat MSF has a big old chunk of that deep russet pink, if I include that section when I swirl, I get a much darker finish.

The texture is smooth though quite metallic…

Absolutely wearable as a blush (aslong as you’re happy with shimmer).  I think it’s universally quite flattering.  If you are going to pick one of these babies up next Thursday, pay attention to the veining.  If you want something lighter and more high-lightery… see if you can ask them to grab you one with slightly less veining.  Me?  I’m happy with that concentrated chunk as it means I can avoid if necessary!

The face swatches above show a general swirl of the pan incorporating the dark and light sections.  Hope this is useful!

Now, as I said at the beginning… I wanted to link you to Jojoba’s wonderful post on her Petticoat MSF, which looks paler and more ethereal on her darker/warmer skintone.  You can also catch the flash of bronzed pink highlight on her cheek in one of the photos.  Gorgeous!

Is Petticoat something you’re hoping to pick up next week?

that looks sooo nice on you! i´m still not going to buy it, I just don´t think it is going to look that good on me.

Thank you sooo much for commenting on my blog, it really made my day:-)

    This is soooo pretty! :3

  6. Anitacska says:

I already have two of these, one with heavy veining and one with very light veining, and they look very different. I’m quite fair (Light Medium to Medium in MSFN) and the one with heavy veining is actually too dark and too shimmery for me. But the one with light veining is just right as a gorgeous pink blush. I’ve heard that the new version is darker than the old one (the pink bit, not the veining), so will check it out, but probably won’t buy yet another one.

Do you know if the collection goes online on Tuesday before the counters, or the Thursday following the launch? Thanks.

I love petticoat! It’s such a gorgeous bronzed raspberry pink!

  8. Is it released next week? I thought it was later in the Summer for the UK! I better stop spending then – need to save my pennies for this collection, for once it’s one I’m excited about!

  9. jojoba says:

you know i don’t have pale arse (face) but this is equally as pigmented on me. i really like it. it’s the only MAC MSF i’d tried.

you look great with it on!

  10. Stephanie says:

This looks beautiful! I’ve only recently started to get into MSF’s, but I think I might have to pick this one up!

  11. Wendy says:

This looks lovely, but pinks with any hint of gold/bronze/copper tend to go ‘brown’ on me :( I’m looking out for a msf that’s a light, cool pink, possibly with a hint of silver – any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks :)

  12. jojoba says:

ps: forgot to say thannk you for linking my post. (no manner me!)

  13. Hendrix says:

Wendy, you might try to track down the Blonde MSF from the Brunette, Blonde, Redhead collection. It’s kind of a pale mauve-y rose in gradient stripes and it has a nice shimmer — not particularly silver-y, but definitely not bronzing.

  14. Wendy says:

Thanks so much Hendrix – I’ll look out for it :)

  15. @Anitacska – I’m sorry hun, I don’t know when it’s going online :(

  16. Hendrix says:

I found mine at a CCO. I don’t know where you’re living, but I’d have a look in the outlet malls if you’ve got one close by.

  17. @Beautyjunkielondon – It’s out instore on the 1st July xx

  18. @Wendy – If you want to stick with something cool, then definitely blonde as Hendrix said… I just picked mine up in my local CCO about 2 weeks ago, so if you have one near you – definitely worth a look!

Although… If you *do* have a local CCO, they also have the Grand Rock Duo Blushes in there atm and Moon River sounds like it would be perfect for you. Pale pink silver with a hint of lilac… really cool toned but still pink.

  19. Wendy says:

Thanks guys – off to Bicester asap then!

  20. Ciambella says:

Petticoat was my first “big” non-drugstore makeup purchase! Also my first MAC purchase, I think. I’m not much into MAC, but I like Petticoat–it really emphasizes my cheekbones. I mainly use it for special occasions with a fan brush and the thing is not disappearing at all!

  21. Ooh how pretty is this colour! I wonder when the collection launches in Australia.

  22. gio says:

    That looks lovely on you!

  23. Julia Arenas says:

it looks yummy, makes me think of rasperry or strawberry bavarian creme

  24. This colour is so gorgeous!!!
