Weight Watchers Friendly Pizza!

Posted by Lipglossiping On May - 25 - 2012

Pizza is one of my (many) vices… hot, cold, hot then cold then warmed up again – however I eat it, I love it.  The spicier and more garlicky, the better – jalapenos are a must, I helpfully remind myself that spicy foods raise the metabolism, therefore burning fat more quickly no?  I excel at self-delusion.  When I first joined Weight Watchers, I read the most horrifying piece of information that my eyes had ever digested: one slice of stuffed-crust pizza is 10 points.  That’s a single slice… a single fucking slice, I’m only allowed 26 points a day!  I can hoover up a whole pizza (what, 8 slices?) in the time it takes my husband to work through one slice.

So pizza was off the menu then.  Except it so isn’t.

The pizza you see above scores an incredible 7 points.  That’s 7 points for the entire pizza.  I think we all need to take a moment….

…for those of you who don’t know follow Weight Watchers, we’re talking around 350kcal.

You don’t need to make your own pizza dough and it only requires about 10 minutes in the oven.  Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Warburtons Square-ish Wrap
1 tbsp Tomato Puree (I mix a tsp of garlic puree in too!)
Your choice of 0 point topping (onions, peppers, mushrooms, tomato, jalapenos)
50g “wafer” ham
Dash of Worcester Sauce/Tabasco/Balsamic Vinegar (whichever you prefer)
Sprinkling of Italian herbs
30g Cathedral City Light Mature Cheese (this is the only ‘light’ cheese I’ve found to melt properly)

I keep my wraps in the freezer and just take one out and cook it from frozen.  Spoon the Tomato Puree onto the wrap and spread evenly to the edges.  Top your “pizza base” with the ham, veggie toppings and Italian herbs before sprinkling the cheese over the top.  Finish off with a sprinkling of sauce before cooking it in a pre-heated oven at around 200 degrees celsius for around 10 minutes.

Serve with a side salad and feel ridiculously virtuous about it.

What is your biggest foodie vice and do you have a healthier alternative for it?

That’s a really great idea. I love pizza, but not the guilt that comes after, so I’ll definitely be giving this a go.

  2. Paris B says:

I LOVE this idea, Charlotte! I love thin crust wood fire pizzas and that’s nearly impossible to create at home so I’m going to try with a wrap as a base instead. Genius 😀

  3. Sam says:

Absolute. Genius! I’m going to try this, ASAP 🙂

Another one to try is Pizza Crumpets. I am not a WW, however a quick google suggests 5 points per two crumpets? all you need to do is grill/toast the crumpet as usual, then spread with tomato puree, put a little cheese on top, under the grill until melted. Seriously delic.

I bet Leila would also love these. Great as a snack, or for a super quick lunch.

    • I’ve never had anything on my crumpets other than butter. They seem like they wouldn’t go with savoury things? I shall try!

Cheese on crumpets is one of my biggest vices…no-one believes me though! I had a Pizza Express Leggera last night, which was 14 WW points. I did miss the middle of it though…

  5. Ness says:

That looks SO good! I have to find something similar to those wraps and make one myself =)

  6. Catriona says:

That looks amazing! I’ve heard good things about M&S low fat cheese – although I don’t think it’s as “low” in fat as others, hence it being nice I guess!

I’ve used bagels as pizza bases before and they were delicious! Google tells me they’re 6 pro points. I bought the WW brand ones once but I might as well have eaten cardboard…(I’m not on any diet, they were just on offer!)

    • Oh, I need an excuse to go to M&S food hall, they have an apparently delicious new “guilt-free” range of little cakes and things! I need to make better use of bagels too, they’re pretty filling. I’m a Nimble (or cheaper equivalent bread fan) but they suck for toasting and aren’t the most filling things in the world.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the WW range – the frozen ready meals are really good for convenience and about the only thing from the range that isn’t hugely overpriced!

  7. Lily says:

This looks *awesome*! I prefer making pizzas myself to the frozen/ take out ones – they’re just never as tasty 🙂

  8. Yasmin says:

It looks very good!! And only 7 for points? Amazing!

  9. Jade says:

I ate a whole pizza last night *urgh* oh well hahaha. Perhaps I’ll try to make my own virtuous pizza next time I have a craving for it 😉

  10. Olivia says:

I love spicy pizza. Always have to have a bottle of hot sauce if there isn’t any zing to the pizza. I also like sweet and spicy pickles.

My food vice or maybe it isn’t a food vice but micro brewed soda pop. I love all trying all the different brands and flavors.

  11. Lucy says:

Awesome idea; I’m trying to avoid wheat, but I’m missing pizza the most (after buttered toast and tea!). Loving the fact this takes about ten minutes too.

  12. When I was on WW (7 years ago – 25kg lost and not taken back, yay!) what broke my heart the most was pasta. I went down to once a week with veggie only sauce and a limited amount of parmesan on it. Pizza was an issue too but I was not having it too often back then (I eat pizza more often nowadays but of course in very reasonable quantities).
I managed to not replace sugar by aspartam in my morning tea and keep a few cookies in my daily menu, but I gave up alcohol entirely! But hey, I still enjoy the results, 7 years later!

  13. Gemma says:

You’re making my time on WW so much easier with recipes like this! I lost 2st a couple of years ago and have slowly put about 10lbs back on over time, so am back on the wagon for the next few months to ditch it again.

re. the crumpets suggestion above, I also use them a lot when doing WW – my latest discovery is using them instead of bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. It halves the points and tastes just as good.

  14. Samantha says:

That looks amazing. I love pizza too – the one food I would find it extriemly hard to give up!
Will defo be giving this a go 😀

10 points for a single slice? :O I don’t know what that means but it sounds bad! Since going to the gym more regularly I have begun to feel resentment at the calorie content of little chocolate bars as I now view them in “treadmill hours” instead. At first I was all “what do you mean ten mins doesnt burn off a nice big piece of cake?” now i’ve (more or less) come to accept the truth: my brother in law is thin because excersise is fun and relaxing for him so he chooses to do it all the time. My hobbies of watching films and eating delicious things are not so conducive to a svelte frame so if I want to be thinner i’m going to have to change one or both of those XD

Had one of these for dinner… and not for the first time since you posted this. So easy and so tasty – thanks! 🙂
