A sneak peek at my fragrance collection

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 7 - 2012

Afternoon, remember me?  No, I don’t either…

I scrimped enough of Mr. L’s 3G (Ovivo has been a God send) to write a post, got all excited at the prospect, had a rummage through my tried and tested box and just simply couldn’t find the words.  I’ve got blog block.  This is not a good thing.  In three years of blogging, I’ve only gotten it once before and that was when L was a tiny baby and I hadn’t long been beauty blogging – sheer tiredness got me that time.  I think that sheer disorganisation is the culprit today.

I’m finding it quite difficult to adjust to my new surroundings and I’m blaming the Cancerian homebody in me.  You see, I’ve never moved house before (not since I’ve been old enough to know anything about it) and this is one of the most unsettling experiences I’ve ever had.  I like to have my “things” around me and my life is still split 50/50 between two homes.  Whine… whine… grumble etc. etc.  I should put a sock in it, I’ve been a bit of a whinger on Twitter and keep reminding myself that people move house every-freaking-day, so why am I acting like such a drama llama about it?  Well, the truth is… I’m kinda not.  Not in real life anyway, but once a blogger always a blogger and as soon as I get online, I just want to spill all my complaints onto my keyboard and out into the ether.  Sorry about that.

Moving on…

I moved some of my beauty stuff over yesterday and the first to come with me was my our beloved fragrance collection.

We weren’t sure how to store them.  Previously, all our bottles have been kept on the top shelf of a wardrobe which has satisfied the need to keep them away from light and heat but it’s always made me sad that I can’t SEE them.  We’ve bought a couple of chunky shelving units which will keep them out of any direct sunlight (away from the window) and this will have to do for now.  I don’t actually have the same kind of (reachable) wardrobe space any more.  I’d love to hear how you store your fragrances?

I’ve organised the storage into seasonal themes.  Bottom shelf is Spring/Summer, Middle shelf is Autumn, and top shelf is Winter.  I’ll rotate the positioning to ensure that the current season is within the easiest reach.  Of course, rules are made to be broken and I delved into the Winter shelf yesterday for a little hit of amber in the guise of Costume National’s Scent Intense!

A closer look…

What is your favourite fragrance at the moment and do you wear scent daily?

I can’t even explain my jealousy right now, you both have beautiful collections….

Spring/ Summer Picks – Marc Jacobs Daisy, J Lo Deseo

Autumn/ Winter – YSL Cinema, Body Shop Neroli Jasmine

All the time – Cacharel Amor Amor, Katy Perry Purr and Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT (My fave – sexy as hell!)

I look forward to reading more about your collection in future posts.

    Love, Laura X

    • I love the NR for Her EDT too (not the EdP though, that one didn’t float my boat at all!) – I was gonna pick it up this Spring but got lured into getting a little bottle of TF’s Violet Blonde by the SA! YSL Cinema is also on my hit list – lovely choices!

  2. Ami says:

Your collection is amazing!! Fantastic picks!

Spring – DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom
    Summer – Philosophy Eternal Grace
Autumn – Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, Issey Miyake L’eau d’Issey Florale
Winter – Balenciaga Paris, CHANEL No. 5

  3. Ohhh, some lovelies in both of your collections. I change seasonally too & have you to thanks for introducing me to the Armani Prive on your top shelf, which I’m looking forward to wearing in AW.

Right now I’m struggling to prise myself away from Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess – the gold glittery one – just can not get enough of it.

Roger & Gallet Bois D’Orange, Laura Mercier Fresh Fig & DKNY Cashmere Mist Liquid Nude have all had their moments too.

Lovely to hear from you sweets. Don’t feel bad – moving home IS ranked as no1 in life’s most stressful events for a reason. I’ve done it 10 times+ and hate it with a passion.

    Nic x

I have a serious storage and organizational skills envy right now.

  5. Shelli says:

I don’t like perfume so I don’t have any favorites or advice on storage, but I did need to tell you how gorgeous that is to look at! Makes me want perfume just to display 😀

  6. Long Tall Ally says:

O.M.G envy doesn’t even cut it! This collection (and the way it is displayed) sure as sh*t puts my solitary bottle of Bvlgari to shame!

  7. natalie says:

I don’t have a massive perfume collection because I’m just not that into it, so I store it on top golf my Helmet in their original boxes.
    Nice collection though!

  8. liloo says:

what gorgeous looking bottles. i love the one with the ball and the ribbon around it xx

  9. WOW! I love how you’ve showcased your (and Mr. L’s) fragrances! I don’t really classify my perfumes into seasons, I kinda just wear them whenever I want to :p. But I definitely have scents that when sniffed, smell more like a particular season.

  10. sophie says:

Oh my, DROOL. I don’t have perfume storage issues because I only actually own four perfumes – Miss Dior Cherie, Dior Hypnotic Poison, Lush Vanillary & Illamasqua Freak. Why yes, I do like extremely heavy gourmand scents, why do you ask?

Also, don’t feel guilty about being stressed over house moving – it’s your blog, you can say what you like on it! I am feeling your pain currently – I’m doing the opposite of you and moving *back* to my mum’s house after uni and half of my stuff is still in London while half of it is here, in the North. It’s hellish, I keep trying to do things and realising I haven’t got the stuff >.<

  11. mary says:

Ooooh eyed your Oud Absolu with total envy!. I love this organisation look, so classy…my fragrances are all stored in their boxes in a huge drawer, in an unheated room.

My most recent purchase was to get Chanel 19 Poudre (gorgeous Iris) but I choked at the price when I got to the counter (close to 90 pounds for 50ml over here) and bought Aqua Di Parma Fico di Amalfi (lovely fig) instead. The only thing is now my partner has coveted the bottle for himself (what is it with men and dark blue glass bottles?).

I also swapped for a decant of Hermes Eau des Merveilles and am in on a split of Arabian Nights by Jesus Del Pozo (coming soon!)

  12. Oh my goodness, I am just so envious of this whole set up. So many pretty bottles, so many classic fragrances (I REALLY need more Dior Hypnotic Poison for Autumn/Winter, it’s got bitter almond for chrissake) – I would be so happy walking into a room and seeing these shelves full of fragrance! Lucky you! Hope you enjoy them, Charlotte! (And moving house sucks, so whinge away, at least your whingeing is articulate and humorous, this is a very good thing.) Hope I spelt humorous right. x

  13. Mollance says:

Feeling kinda shameful I don’t own any perfume at all at the moment.

  14. Lily says:

Oooh, I always think perfume collections looks so beautiful. I went to the local museum yesterday and found they have a collection of perfume bottles from around the ’20s, they were gorgeous!

I’m getting into indie perfumeries lately, so I’ve mainly been wearing Solstice Scents ‘Manor’ and ‘Black Forest’.

  15. Amy says:

I only wear BPAL, so my bottles are in two boxes with the names stuck on the bottle tops. I’m thinking of putting a large spice rack up though, that’d be perfect for all those 5ml bottles and I’d get to see the gorgeous label art. My room is dark and cool enough for it to be OK for them. I do have a few bottles of commercial fragrances I never wear, I have a cube-shaped shelf on the wall with those inside and on top so I can enjoy the pretty bottles!

My favorites by season (all BPAL, and mostly past limited editions):
    Spring – Opuhi, Snow White
Summer – Tiki Princess (all time fave!), Embalming Fluid
Autumn – To Autumn, Snake Oil, Pumpkin Queen
Winter – Mme. Moriarty, Tanin’Iver, Snake Charmer

ATM I’ve been luggin around vetiver Tonka, corpes et Ames 2012, what we do in Paris secret, diorella, white linen and colonia Assoluta. And with the recent Lancôme La vie est belle it’s brought me to greatly appreciate Dior Homme.

  18. leslie says:

OOOOHHHH! Your perfume display looks awesome! I used to feel guilty about having soo much perfume, but now I don’t after seeing this. I am such a perfume junkie:) I love wearing perfume daily. I always scent up after my shower at night and also in the morning.Right now the perfume i’m into is Prada Candy. I just came across Lancomes new scent called La Vie Est Belle and i have a sample to see if i like it or not.

oh wow, that’s a crazy collection (in a good way)… i dream of one such collection some day!

  21. Missed this first time round – Just wondering how many times I’ve moved… I make that 13!! haven’t found it any easier as it’s gone on. My first home when I got married was actually the longest I’d lived anywhere, at just over 10 years and much as I wanted to come here, it was really hard to start with. Hope you’re feeling a little more at home now. Three years on and I think it’s taken about two thirds of that to actually feel totally home.

    Love the collection pics.
