I don’t get excited about hair products. They’re not my forte, my cup of tea… they‘re just not my bag (baby). I view them in the same way that I do many bathroomy-type toiletries, something to be chucked in the trolley while doing my weekly shop. The truth is, you’ll rarely find me scouring online beauty emporiums for styling products and high-end shampoos. I’d rather spend my money on lipstick.
Which is why LUSH have surprised me with this bottle of shampoo.
LUSH Rehab shampoo describes itself as a “restorative and repairing” shampoo with extracts of pineapple, papaya, and olive oil to moisturise and “take your hair back to its healthiest, glossiest state”. You wouldn’t know any of this without reading up on it because frankly, it doesn’t feel or smell like a traditional “SOS-type” shampoo.
My hair is dry but not brittle and to be fair, is in better condition since swapping my permanent hair colours for semi-permanent almost a year ago… but still, it could never be described as soft or silky. Introduce my hair to a hairdryer and I’m finished within three-minutes, whereas on the rare occasion that I style Leila’s… I get killer arm ache long before her hair shows any signs of drying.
I also suffer from an itchy scalp. It comes and it goes, focusing upon the change of seasons but it lurks nonetheless, waiting to flare up in great crusts of scalp-soreness.
I’ve been using the LUSH Rehab Shampoo for around two months now, washing my hair every other day and I’ve been impressed with the noticeable improvement in both scalp-sensitivity and the general condition of my hair which feels more balanced: less oily at the roots and more nourished at the ends. The improvement has creeped up on me, I wouldn’t say that it was an overnight miracle but more a realisation that my hair and scalp simply hasn’t been this good for a long time.
My only caveat against this glowing review are those pesky pregnancy hormones that may well be skewing the results, but in all honesty, my skin is a hot mess at the moment, so I’d imagine my scalp to react in the same way.
The strong lavender-scent may be off-putting to some… it’s certainly not my favourite and wasn’t what I was expecting. It can be a little too bracing in the mornings but I’ll happily take the aroma hit while it’s still working its magic on my locks. The shampoo lathers really well with only a very small amount (the texture is thin and runny) so although it’s marked up at a price-point I can only just about stomach, I appreciate that a 250g bottle will actually last me a minimum of three-months before it needs replacing (I’ve got at least 1/3 left in the above bottle after two-months use).

Funnily enough Nelle, I don’t usually get on well (long-term) with LUSH shampoos as I find them quite drying. I love the solid Juniper one for getting rid of the greasies though in the summer!
I’m like you, not that interested in hair really. But I must be really, really thick because it never occurred to me why my hair dries in seconds and when I try to give my little ‘un’s “a quick blast” with the dryer after a before-bed bath, I usually end up abandoning the attempt whilst it’s still damp. Then I read this and thought “Oh. Oh right.” and it seemed obvious. Feel a bit depressed about my crappy hair now. Should probably try this shampoo. I like the shower gels, so why not? Maybe I’ll give it a whirl x
Well, I’m kinda guessing BUT I’m sure I read that damaged hair, especially if you dye it and it becomes more porous dries more quickly than “virgin” hair. At least, that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it! 😉
Apologies for immensely boring question, but what semi permanent dyes are you using, and do they cover grey hair at all? Although you may not be blessed with odd clumps of grey like I am.
Hi Jane, I’m about 30% grey (60% at the temples!) I use Superdrug own brand and have done for years, first their permanent and now their semis. I always go two shades lighter than I want though as my hair ‘takes’ dye too well, so to get a plain ashy brown that’s not too dark, I use their “Light Brown”.
Grey coverage is fine, very good even and I usually keep the colour (without any additional colour care) for around 6 weeks, at which point, the roots need doing. HTH 🙂
Thank you! I am about the same colour as you so will look at the superdrug own brand. I need my colour cool and ash, so find it hard finding a semi permanent that doesn’t wash out to leave gingery horrors behind! But like you I think semis will be better than permanent the later build up really dark. And congratulations on the pregnancy, baby number 2 takes things to a whole new level of busy!
This one def doesn’t fade to ginger for me, but I’m pretty reckless about shampoos because I’m usually treating a sore scalp, which needs the kind of shampoo that strips colour.
Lavender scent? I smelled peppermint and citrus when I used it. But maybe the scent differs from origin. Mine is produced in UK, yours in the US?

The shampoo lists both lavender and peppermint oils as ingredients so perhaps our noses are just more tuned to a specific scent? I’m quite sensitive to lavender as it’s not a smell I particularly enjoy!
Three months for that price? Sounds very reasonable to me! However, I imagine this would strip my red hair dye so probably not one for me to try.
I have never been great at styling my hair so have never been a massive product person, however I have always had to spend a bit on shampoos because my hair is super greasy and only good clarifying shampoos work for me and even then I have to wash my hair daily.
I tried Lush’s I love Juicy and their Big shampoo at the start of 2012 and I have never used anything else since! Once I got used to using just a little bit and adding a splash of water to create foam I have never had any issues and if I ever stray I return within 2 shampoos.

This shampoo sounds amazing if it converted you to a shampoo lover, I have never tried lush hair products before. Might have to have a browse asap! xx
