MAC MSF Natural… let me count the ways…

Love, love, love.

“Repurchase” isn’t a word you’ll find used too often on this blog.  I try to save it for products that really make it into daily use.  When you own and enjoy using makeup as much as I do, there’s tons of products that you love with all your heart.  But a repurchase?  When there’s so many gorgeous new things to try?  Gotta be reserved for something genuinely useful.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (£18) is one of my most used products.

I usually use light medium, but was colour-matched to medium last time I was instore at MAC.  On the way home I was all “Oh noes, why did I let him persuade me to get medium… gonna look muddy and orange”.

Yanowot?  It works really well.  I couldn’t go darker than this, but when I apply Light Medium now (I still have a scrap left in the bottom of an old pan) it simply isn’t as flattering as Medium which warms me up a teeny bit without a hint of orange.

Love. It.

Also, now it’s Summer… I’m making more use of my MSF Natural than ever before.  It offers more coverage than many pressed powders and when worn over a sheer tinted moisturiser gives me the coverage I’m looking for but with a light texture.

Did I mention I love it?

MAC MSF Natural is available instore at MAC or online.  My tip for this product?  Next time you’re instore, ask the MUA to apply a shade darker than you would normally go for…

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago for the first time and was amazed when Medium Plus turned out to be the perfect colour for me…and I’m fair and freckly,

So far I love it – especially over sheer foundation, just the right amount of coverage for the summer…can see it being a constant repurchase!

Love this stuff so much! I generally just use this alone day to day as I cba with foundation and it gives enough coverage to cover minor redness 😀

That’s an interesting tip, I shall have to give it a try next time I repurchase!

  3. Hm I might try it!! 🙂

  4. Anitacska says:

I agree, I love my MSFN too, and have repurchased it myself (and I also have a LOT of make up). I alternate between Light Medium and Medium (LM for winter, M for summer), although I can’t see a huge difference between the two shades. I also have these with the shimmer half, which I find little less useful as I use the “normal” side way more often. But the natural version is really great. 🙂

This is my love of life. Glad you like it too!

  6. Diane says:

I like it, but I can’t use it in summer. It gets very hot where I live (95 degrees F today) and I tend to sweat a lot.

BTW, what is that nail polish?? Love it!

  7. I love this too! And good tip on going a shade up.

  8. I never repurchased any of my Mac products, except the Blotting Powder and the Brush Cleanser 🙂

  9. Louise says:

I don’t get this it always looks way too powdery on me

  10. Jasmine says:

Really? One shade up? I always get a shade lighter when it comes to powders (never tried MSFs though) because they oxidise… should I get a shade up, does this oxidise?

And oh, do you use it to contour or wot?

  11. So I’ve Ben curious about these for a while. My skin is dry & I’m always trying to make it look glowier. At the same time, I have to set my makeup with powder or it does one of 2 things- transfers off or my skin soaks it all up. Is this a good option? I know it’s supposed to give a glow, my worry is that it will have shimmer, or that semi-metallic finish that the regular MSFs have, which can make me look a bit old! What do you think?

BTW Jasmine, are you oily skinned? Usually powder doesn’t truly oxidize, rather it darkens as oil from your skin comes out & mixes with the powder (kind if like when you foil powder eye shadows). If you keep the oil at bay, you likely won’t have issues with the powder changing color. Just a thought 🙂

  12. Kim says:

I love MSF natural. i’ve purchased it so many times. I first began using it in 2008, and haven’t stopped since. I do get a lot more oily from it, but it doesn’t look gross as with other makeup I’ve used.

I kinda hate that MAC products make me break out but this didn’t and you can really build it up the minealiza forundation is really good too.
    XOXO from Mexico.

  14. Rowena says:

I want one, lets go and buy one tomorrow

  15. Julia Arenas says:

May we see this on you? 🙂 Am curious as to how it looks…

  16. Jasmine says:

Hi Jessica! Wow, thanks for replying!

Re “Usually powder doesn’t truly oxidize, rather it darkens as oil from your skin comes out & mixes with the powder” – my skin isn’t oily, but it all makes sense because I compensate with plenty of moisturizer … and well, right now I’m based in Singapore with an extremely humid and sunny weather wrecking havoc on my skin at full blast.

Here are some reviews done by other bloggers:

What I’m really curious about is Charlotte’s claim that a darker shade goes on better! Please post a picture of you … 🙂

I really like this and I also use it in the summer over tinted moisturizer! It gives a very natural and flattering look with a hint a coverage.

  18. Michou says:

I had finally decided to go and get myself a MAC face powder, fully expecting to get one their Studio products…

until they put this on my face. I bought it straight away and also got the Soft & Gentle highlighter (SO PRETTY, and a pink that works on my yellow undertones). It’s a definite rebuy for me when I start running out!

  19. @Jen – Sounds like you use it the same way I do, it’s just got that teeny bit of extra coverage hasn’t it?

@kirsty – wow, you must have pretty lovely skin lady! jealous!

@Anitacska – I have the half shimmer one too, it’s a pain picking up from the one half isn’t it!

  20. @diane – It’s Nails Inc. Battersea Park xx

  21. @Michelle (LipstickRules) – It’s worth a try when instore, I’ve never been able to go a shade up on ANYTHING lol, this is a novelty for me! xx

  22. @Louise – I’ve read that a lot, it really seems to be a love it/hate it product!

  23. Stephanie says:

I agree with you about using a shade darker than recommended! I’m NC30-35 and was told to try Medium Plus, but Medium Dark actually gives me a warmer and healthier look! I love how flawless this looks while feeling extremely light 🙂

  24. @Jessica Allison – Thanks for the oily skin input… it makes sense, I’ve thought in recent years that I don’t experience as much product oxidisation as I used to in my teenage years and was simply putting it down to buying more expensive/quality products nowadays. Your theory makes sense though.

These MSF Naturals are completely matte. I guess I use this as a lighter version of a mineral foundation… slapping Bare Escentuals over my face after tinted moisturiser would be too much… but this kinda bridges the gap. It doesn’t leave me looking as caked in powder as most pressed powders do. And because it’s mineral I can spray my brush before applying for fuller coverage before buffing it in.

It really seems to be a bit of a love/hate product though.

  25. Tina says:

A shade up huh? Must remember when I run out (maaany months to come lol)!
