Dedicated to the cause

Posted by Lipglossiping On July - 2 - 2010

It’s Friday… the weekend is here!  Let’s have a discussion and compare notes…

How long do you spend preening, pampering and generally grooming yourself?

My answer, in absolute honesty would be…. as long as I can get away with.

I love it.  As long as I’m not too tired, I love to cleanse my skin, pluck my brows, apply my makeup, give myself quick masks, paint my nails…. I take great pleasure and comfort in the whole ‘beautification’ thing.

The one exception to this is my hair.  I’m hair-lazy.  Infact, it was only last week I turned up to a blogger event and realised that I’d forgotten to brush my hair that morning.  Thankfully it was ponytailed and no-one noticed.  I think…

I guess I generally spend about 45 minutes to an hour a day… longer at the weekends when I get more chance to properly play with makeup for blog posts etc.

How long do you spend each day on making yourself beautiful/presentable/human? (delete as appropriate).  Would you like to have time to spend longer?

I would say.. 45 minutes maximum, both on mornings and nights out. This includes showering, hair washing, moisturising, getting dressed, and applying makeup, and painting nails! It might be due to the fact I’m one of those people who plan in advance what I’m going to wear, and what makeup I want to put on.
I’m incredibly hair-lazy too, I can never be bothered to straighten it, so I just plait it everyday for an easy fuss-free look.

    Hair? 5 minutes.
Make up? 5 – can’t wear mascara in hot weather so that cuts it down
Nails – could be 20 + drying-time when I spend much too long just surfing…

i always find it fussy that i don’t really care about my clothes or hair but i spend ages doing my makeup! i guess i find it artistic and fun while the others are just chores. I always paint my nails on a Friday night.

I’m the same, I love to do my nails, face masks, cleansing, make up, etc.. but when it comes to my Barnet, I cannot be bothered, it’s too long, my hair is thick and when it’s hot I just chuck it back in a bobble and be done.. I do much prefer it when I make an effort with my hair though, and it makes me feel better about myself.

Hmmm, for a big night out I can spend anything from half hour to 3 hours… If I’ve got a big party in the evening on a weekend for example, I often will start getting ready in the morning (you know, wash my hair, let it air dry), then do something else, then go back and take time doing my mani and pedi, then again go and watch tv or have lunch, then go back and take a bath etc etc etc… So it takes the whole day 😉

On a daily basis I’d say 45 minutes to an hour; that includes washing and drying my hair, getting dressed and doing my makeup! Nails are usually done later in the day or before I go to bed; thanks to the marvel that is Seche Vite I don’t have to worry about sheet marks anymore 😉

On a weekday I usually have 50 mins or so to shower, wash and dry my hair (every 3 days, not the showering though, that’s every day :)), get dressed, put face cream and make up on. I don’t like to get up early, so I on hairwash days I usually don’t have enough time to do proper eye make up, just eyeliner, mascara and maybe one shade of eyeshadow. So I would love to have about 1.5 hours, but since I refuse to get up any earlier, it’s not gonna happen. :)

Let’s see… last night I spent 2 hours doing my nails. Not in total – I just watch a couple episodes my favorite show (currently revisiting Buffy the Vampire Slayer) between coats.

Showers take about 10 minutes. Shaving – add 15 min. With extended facial – add another 20-30 minutes.

This morning I spent 40 minutes on makeup. 5 minutes on hair (smooth frizz with leave in conditioner, comb and scrunch to make it wavy).

I spent the rest of my time in the office, doing chores and taking care of my husband and 2 daughters so I figure I deserve to pamper myself a little bit. Or I guess a lot 😛

I can completely relate to the hair comments – hair stuff just doesn’t do it for me, providing my hair is clean that’s fine, but I have been known to not wash my hair for 3 days+ whoops

When I’m working, I spend 10mins max getting ready and doing my makeup. I don’t even bother with my hair coz frankly I’d rather get the extra sleep. However I could easily spend 45minutes in front of the mirror shaping my eyebrows – I find it therapeutic.

  11. LadyEm says:

During the week, I’ve got my routine down to 15 minutes (face wash, quick eyebrow check, make-up and hair). But on the weekend, when I’m getting ready to go out, well, that’s my favorite time of the day. If I had the chance, I could burn over 90 minutes getting my look just right–coordinating my whole look, from my make-up to my skin to my outfit (and shoes) to the hair. I love it!!

  12. Julia Arenas says:

I take about 15-20 mins in the shower, then then 30 mins to primp and get ready…do the math, so that would be…roughly almost an hour a day. On a normal week day I have to cut it to 40 mins, we take my brother to school and leave very early, we’re an hour out of the city…

  13. Julia Arenas says:

To do a full makeup look on top of that would be an added 30mins. An hour and a half is very polished…

  14. Nicole says:

So generally to go to work I need to:
    – have a shower, wash & condition hair 20 mins
    – cleanse, tone & moisturise face 5 mins
    – blowdry hair 20 mins
    – apply full face of makeup 30 mins
    – run around the house madly looking for that particular top/pants/skirt that I have just decided I want to wear 10 mins

However if I am not working then I will just spend 20 minutes tiding my hair, putting a little mascara, gloss & blush, and throwing on the first clothes I find…and conversely if I am going out, then I want at least 3 hours (or start early in stages that day) because a body exfoliation, fake tan (or bronzing moisturisers) on legs, nails polished and champagne swilling is also involved!

  15. Cindy Khor says:

i spent about 20 minutes including changing my clothes, doing makeup, slapping on skincare product and tying my hair everyday before i leave for work.

  16. Lillian says:

It depends what i’m doing. if i’m going to work (which is only once a week for me) or walking the dogs or something i can be out the house in ten minutes. I’ll just throw on clothes and a lick of makleup (these days sunscreen, powder, mascara and lippie). If i’m going into town i’ll take about 45 minutes to an hour putting on a proper face with blush, shadow, eyeliner and playing properly with a nice look and doing my hair. If i’m going out in the evening i’ll take a few hours and go really over the top 😀
About twice a week i do a full body MOT with manicure, pedicure, a bath with exfoliator and a shave and cleanse, scrub and apply a mask to my face and followered with a lot of diferent lotions and potions :)
