A couple of you eagle-eyed ladies spotted the lipstick that I was wearing in my Bateau Ivre FOTD from earlier in the week. It’s very, very nude isn’t it?
The NARS shade is new for Spring and called Madère.
How do we pronounce that then? I’m opting for ‘mah-daire’ – anyone wanna wade in with an infinitely more sensible suggestion?
For a matte… it’s fairly creamy to apply, though pretty unforgiving on very dry lips. If you have deep furrows, you may need to think about some intense moisturisation and a plumping base before attempting this shade as it will highlight any areas of concern.
Many reviews from last year’s launch of these Pure Matte Lipsticks commented on how the formula of these were more moisturising than normal mattes. Sadly, I can’t say that I’ve reached the same conclusion with Madère. I felt that it was just as drying as any other matte lipstick that I wear.
Where Madère does excel is in the density of colour and it’s ability to truly blank out the lip when you want to concentrate attention on your smokey eye. If you’re a fan of true nude lips (and I know many of you are), it’s probably a shade that you’ll want to add to your collection for nights out. I feel that it would particularly suit women who feel that nudes often run too orange on their skintone.

I didn’t like their matte lipsticks (the fatter ones) when I swatched them before, they dragged on my hand so I wouldn’t really want to put them on my lips.
However, I do have some of their lipgloss pencils which are really nice, I haven’t had time to swatch them and get them up on the blog because the light has been crappy..
Thanks for the review on this product as I have been wondering about it since Its release as I am obsessed with ALL nude lipsticks. Its so difficult to find one that isn’t drying on my lips. Do you have any suggestions?

I’m not keen on too nude lips. I can’t carry it off, I just end up looking like a zombie, especially if its matte and it goes into the lip fills.

You pull off nude lips really well! They don’t suit me at all, sadly. Your eye make-up in this post is really nice too.
Mmmm…no, not convinced by the nude lipstick at all. Your photo looks lovely and not at all corpse-like, but I feel it’s such a difficult thing to pull off. Plus nudes are so boring.
Incidentally, it’s quite a nice change to see you wear a different coloured lipstick other than red! I really enjoy the red lipsticks challenge but it’s nice to mix it up a little.

I’d only wear this one on a night out to be honest, so I couldn’t give it a ‘road test’
It’s always good to mix it up a bit though… I’ve just bought a Tom Ford lipstick and I was SO tempted to go for a red, but stood my ground and opted for a pink GO ME! xx

You look beautiful! Love that smokey eye on you. I’m not a huge fan of strong nudes, particularly matte ones as I find them very unforgiving, but the colour is great for us pale skinned ones 😉 xxx

Bateau Ivre makes blue eyeshadow easy! The shades are blue without being archetypal ‘blue’ eyeshadow x

C has practically got the opposite skin tone to me!
Where this shade makes my lips pretty invisible it draws attention to hers in the most starkest of ways. So interesting to see the effect that skintone has on lip shades and perceptions though

Yeah, I’m totally in love with the NARS bateau ivre duo – most exciting thing from NARS in a while (for me).
I’m definitely not keen on true nudes, I find them unflattering on everyone, I much prefer those with a pink or peach hue. I do love love love those eyes though, it looks beautiful on you!

I got really irritated when I saw this on Temptalia.com. I think everyone pretty much knows lipsticks like this aren’t meant to be applied full-blown but rather dabbed on and sheered out, but she applied it full on and made people think it’s a terrible lipstick. I think it looks gorgeous on; not all products are meant to be worn with a heavy hand.

It is a full on matte lipstick, there’s no way you could wear this sheerly without it looking patchy (especially on pigmented lips).
It looks more full on in her photo because it stands out against her skintone, whereas on my colouring… it blends/matches.
I don’t believe for one second that she’s intentionally misleading people about this lipstick, it’s just a shade that’s going to look completely different depending on the wearer’s skintone x

I love your eyes here! About the nude, as I have much more pink and pigmented lips (and naturally pink cheeks, too) I cannot ever pull off a true nude without looking ill. I usually go to a neutral pink or peachy beige a bit lighter than my natural lips, but that’s it. On you, much paler (not that I am tan) and cooler-complexioned than me, it looks good, though.
Another question: are your eyelashes that good naturally, are you wearing falsies or do you have finally found a wonderful mascara that lengthens, volumizes AND keeps the curl of handcurled lashes? I usually have to give up at least one of these (normally, I choose length and curl over volume, but I would love to have lashes that look like yours here!).

Do you know what though, I’ve got a little mini 3ml size of Bobbi Brown Extreme Party mascara and I’m loving it!! I can’t tell you much about curl though because my natural ones are mega curly… just a bit pale and wimpy. x
I wish, oh, I wish I had that kind of lashes… One of my (female) housemates has lashes almost like that (not that long), and my brother also has full, thick and curly lashes. Mine are dark and thick, not-too-short but not long, but they’re only full on the outer eyelid, and they’re not curved, actually a bit droopy. Mascara and a curler manage to get them a little curved for some hours, at least.
Hmmm, need to look on eBay for that mascara, I’m not sure where I can find it on stores where I live. I only have around 5 mascaras in rotation (I have behaved well… 🙂 ), so I could manage to try another one.

I love the way you paired it with the blue duo, but to be completely honest it’s not sth I’d rush out to get… Maybe if I was just starting out with my nude lipstick collection, I would, but owning MAC Fleshpot, Barry M 101 (although I guess Madere is more…life-like) and several other nudes, I don’t feel like I absolutely need this!
Btw nude lipsticks look great on you, perhaps you should start a “nude” series after the reds! 😉

not a huge fan of my natural lip colour and im often too scared to where reds/pinks. ive tried a couple of nude lippies before but theyve always been too pale,this one doesnt look too bad for colour i may have to give it a go 🙂

moisturise, moisturise, moisturise and I used a lip brush to apply it because it’s quite tricky to get near the edges from the bullet alone x
