The Lipstick League – Week of 2.5.11

Posted by Lipglossiping On May - 7 - 2011

In the midst of another lovely weekend, if only this one were as long as the last *wistful sigh*…

This week’s question of the week…

What’s your favourite fragrance?  If you don’t have a favourite, what are you currently loving?

I can’t name a single favourite because my perfume loves are so entwined with seasons, moods and occasions that there’s a time and place for all of my favourites!

I am however currently caught under the spell of Givenchy’s Ange ou Démon which I bought a couple of weeks ago after copping a sniff in John Lewis.  We’re talking a citrusy, slightly sharp opening with a herbal heart and a sweet vanilla base… it’s not too heavy for Summer but keeps that edge that stops it from being too floaty.

Which reminds me, I had to giggle when I read what I always think of ‘the edge’ described simply as the “skank” note and I guess it really is!  It just carries a very slight dirty muskiness that appeals to me.  I guess it’s the Demon at work against the Angel… way to strike a balance!

Nouveau Cheap – Did the new John Frieda Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray work wonders on her pesky roots, or did it just give her scary high school flashbacks to days of orange hair and braces?

Pink Sith – Joeybunny Transports you to Cap Ferrat in Southeast France with the new NARS Cap Ferrat eye Shadow Trio!

Phyrra – takes you on a journey to another dimension with the Supernaturals, a collection by Meow Cosmetics.

Vampy Varnish – wants you to stop and smell the Pacifica Body Butters.

we heart this – Benefit’s beautiful new Coral Chacha tint has us dancing!

Beauty Junkies Unite – puts the new Makeup For Ever Aqua Liners to the test. Will they budge? Are they waterproof? Your questions are answered.

Clumps of Mascara – is in love with Color Club’s newest nail polish collection. Need some new neons in your life?

EauMG – Just for fun: EauMG asks her dog to discuss his favorite fragrances.

Lipglossiping – wants to hear your commandments for the perfect foundation. Ladies, we’re taking no prisoners with this one!

.

What’s your favourite fragrance?  If you don’t have a favourite, what are you currently loving?

Skank, you say? I have one of the skankiest. Serge Lutens Muscs de Koublai Khan. I LOVE it. And in ‘that’ kinda way. ;o)

  2. Ann says:

I love so many different fragrances! Since I’m too poor to collect full bottles of most of the things that I love, I have an extensive collection of samples and decants, and then a more modest collection of full bottles.
My most prized bottles are People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo, Ormonde Jayne Ta’if, and Parfumerie Generale Bois Blond. Also among my prized possessions are 15ml sizes of Hermes Hermessence collection Ambre Narguile and Poivre Samarcande, and I also have and love Hermes Kelly Caleche (from the normal line). Oh, and a little jewel of a 10 Corso Como solid scent! I love CB I Hate Perfume, and I have the full size of Burning Leaves, but others that I love include Black March, Wild Hunt, Fire From Heaven, Eternal Return, and probably others that I’m forgetting. I love Bulgari Omnia Crystalline for light everyday wearing, and my favorite scent on my husband is Bulgari Black. I used to love it for myself, but it smells so much better on him that it’s all for him now. Instead I like Le Labo’s Patchouli, which is like extra-intense Bulgari Black.
I love so many of the Ormonde Jayne line, it was so hard for me to pick Ta’if as the one I would buy. I also love Ormonde Woman, Orris Noir, Osmanthus, Champaca … well actually I love all of them. Serge Lutens Chergui is another favorite of mine (I will have a full bottle of this someday) (Andy Tauer’s L’Air du Desert Marocain is in a similar vein but they are different enough and I love them both, so I hope to have both someday). I love a lot of Serge Lutens scents … I love Tubereuse Criminelle, Borneo 1834, MKK … just too may to name. I love L’Eau Serge Lutens as the best cologne I think I’ve smelled.
Probably my favorite citrus is the super uplifting Bergamote from The Different Company. I love Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille for wearing in winter, though it’s all about clove on me (I actually smell more pipe tobacco from Luctor et Emergo sometimes!). My favorite vanilla is Micallef Note Vanille – it’s so rich and complex and deep and just fabulous in so many respects. I also love woody scents and incense scents, I love the Comme des Garcons incense line, but especially Kyoto, though I may like Hinoki even better. I also love Tam Dao from Diptyque, and Sycomore from Chanel’s exclusive line. One of my favorite comfort scents is L’Artisan Saffran Troublant, and Fleur d’Oranger from L’Artisan is my favorite floral … (I have a huge decant of the 2007, wasn’t lucky enough to smell the 2005). However for florals, I also adore Frederic Malle’s Lys Mediterranee, and Une Rose (deepest darkest rose that I love).
I made the mistake of falling for Amouage’s Epic for Women, which is probably the most expensive bottle of perfume that I’ve seriously considered (though frighteningly, not by that much) and so I just hope that someday I’ll have cash and it can be mine. Just like I’ll probably never be able to have a full bottle of the L’Artisan LE Fleur d’Oranger, similar is Guerlain Attrape Coeur, which I love tons, but just didn’t manage to get a bottle of while it was still around.

There are so many more that aren’t mentioned here, but I would be here all night if I tried to list all the perfumes that I’m in love with!

  3. Sydney says:

Strangely, my favourite fragrance of all time is John Paul Gautier for men. I absolutely love the smell of it. It’s gorgeous. Sometimes I wish I was a man purely so that I could wear it (although I would probably get through a ton!)

No ‘female’ fragrance has ever caught my attention or held my love for quite so long.

I am currently trying to work through all of my old unused perfumes – the guilt has gotten to me – so I am enjoying using Britney Spears’ ‘Midnight Fantasy’ and Hilary Duff’s ‘With Love’
They are both extremely easy to wear and smell what I would describe as cute. Not over powering yet still young, fresh and girlie.

  4. JMTolman says:

By For Strange Women: Jaded, Sweet Androgyny, and Cleopatra
By One Hand Washes the Other: Pumpkin Eater, Coven, Barista!, and Bitten.

I don’t like wearing alcohol-based perfume (i.e. every mainstream perfume EVER), so I go to the indie companies with jojoba oil-based scents. LOVE them.

  5. Rosanna says:

I’ve never been into fragrances… up to the moment in which Coco Mademoiselle came out. From that moment on, it’s the only fragrance I wear but I sure wear a lot of it, in all its incarnations (eau de toilette, eau de perfume, emulsion fraiche, hair perfume, bath foam, moisturizing lotion). I’m addicted to that thing 🙂
