Wet n’ Wild Color Icon Trio Eyeshadow: I’m Feeling Retro

Posted by Lipglossiping On July - 4 - 2011

I feel like a big fat cam whore with these FOTDs… I don’t think I’ve done as many FOTDs this entire year as I have this/last week.  I’m nearly through with all the trios now, I think there’s one more after this one… and then I’ve only got a bloomin’ awesome GIVEAWAY of all the ones I’ve featured so far.  Get in!

So today’s is the Wet n’ Wild Color Icon Trio Eyeshadow palette in I’m Feeling Retro.  On paper, it’s my least favourite… at least half of you will agree when you see the shades and the swatches.  Check it out.

Knowing that it was slightly sheerer than the rest, I did the usual thing of packing it on… if I’d had a trowel to hand, I would have happily used it.  The pink/purple needed more persuasion than the blue which went on surprising pigmented.  The highlight is very sheer and adds more of a luminescence than anything else.

Here’s the FOTD alongside Accessorize Merged Blush in Starlet and Lanolips Lip Ointment in Dark Honey.

For something that I was honestly expecting to hate… I, well…. don’t hate it!  Yeah, it’s a bit out of my comfort zone but it’s less clashy, clashy than I anticipated and certainly not too fancy dress.  At least, I hope not seeing as I did leave the house looking like this.  Application is a bit rubbish because I really thought I’d be scrubbing it from my face once I’d applied it!

So, come on… did you hate it then like it?  Like it and then hate it once you saw it on me?  Hate/Hate?  Like/Like?  I neeeeed to overanalyse the makeups!

like it? I LOVE it on you! There’s a couple of color icon trios I’ve picked up after your posts because I just couldn’t imagine how they’d look till I saw them in use on you.

  2. Kirsty says:

Those colours would completely suck on me but they look great on you! By the way, I need to stop following you on Twitter. I saw those gorgeous pictures of you and your little one last night and I have spent all morning cooing over babies. Not only do you inspire me to spend £100s on make-up but now you’re giving me kid envy too! My boyfriend tuts whenever he sees me on here ahaha.

    Great blog though!xx

  3. Elena V. says:

You should definitely get out of your confort zone more often. I love those colours on you!

  4. Jude Dunn says:

I hated it when I saw it in the first 2 photographs, quite liked it when I saw the swatches, absolutely loved it when I saw you wearing it, just goes to show you should never judge a book etc.. Makes me wonder how many fabulous eyeshadows I may have missed out on because I judged them on their appearance in the pan rather than on they eyes. Jude xx @jadlgw

  5. Robyn says:

I love this Trio – black liner, and then the purple all over the lid on top of it and I’m done! :) You look uber cute in that last photo.

  6. Alicat says:

I like the colour on you, it does suit you. I wouldn’t buy it for myself though, I seem to recall having those colours when I was 14 a looooooong time ago in the 80’s, and I’m not sure I could cope with revisiting those days…

  7. liloo says:

    well, i am very surprised
picture of the palette on its own: loved it
swatches on their own: big fat meh
your look with it: loved it.

    roller coaster of emotions.
excited to see what the final palette is going to be.
will it topple ‘i got good jeans’ off its favourite of mine spot?
    we will see.
you did wear falsies on the ‘jeans’ fotd didnt you? please say yes x

  8. I was really disappointed by how sheer this palette is in your swatch photo, but it looks lovely on your eyeballs!

  9. Lily says:

Not a fan of it in the palette…or swatched…and if you really want to be fussy, I don’t like the name either. However, I do like it worn! And how the blue looks more purpley blended with the pink – pretty :)

  10. Oh, I really like that on you. I was sold as soon as I saw it on the lid. I’m surprised at how well it works as when I read the ‘serving suggestions’ I wasn’t convinced!

  11. Gauri says:

    I agree with Robyn.

You look really cute in the last photo.

  12. I would have placed the eyeshadows vertically, side by side, and not horizontally like they recommend, I feel like it would have been more modern.
Nevertheless you look very pretty and the colors look more pigmented than your swatches let think they’d be!

  13. PS: whomever does the French translations for the Wet’n Wild packagings needs to be fired and replaced presto!

  14. Leah says:

It is a tad retro, and I’m old enough to remember these colours the first time round (as worn with bright blue mascara by me, nonetheless!!)

The colour payoff is brill and if you were going to see an 80s band, this look would totally rock it. I love anything retro, and I’ve done a similar look with the Urban Decay bamboo palette.

  15. FragrantWitch says:

Looks good on you but would be death on me. Sadly, I did have an Almay palette like this and wore it with blue mascara…cringe.
Heading out to visit my family in the States next week and I am totally heading for the Wet n Wild stand!

    • ohhhhhh jel! Have a lovely time and don’t forget to check out the Milani nail polishes too!

      • FragrantWitch says:

Definitely checking out Milani as well- they seem to have some interesting stuff! Anything you are dying to see swatched? I’m no you but I’ll give it my best shot!

        • Donna says:

You need at least one of the Milani baked blushes, and you might want to check out the Milani Liquif’eye eye liner pencils for cheap 24/7 dupes. You won’t be sorry!

  16. Rae says:

Like how it looks swatched, love how it looks applied! I think it’s cute ^^

  17. gio says:

The colors look great on you!

  18. LaurieS says:

The colors are a bit scary in the palette but they look beautiful on you.

  19. Eden-Avalon says:

I don’t love this one for myself but I love it on you. The colors really remind me of ELF’s Essential Brightening Eye Colors in Punk Funk, which I own and never really wear because I can’t figure out how to wear it! Your posts are great for that – they give a good idea of how to wear these trios!

  20. redtiger21 says:

From the swatches I thought the colurs weren’t very nice, but they look fantastic on!

  21. lyn says:

This combination looks gorgeous on you and you shouldn’t be afraid of stepping out with them on 😉

  22. Donna says:

I like the duochrome going on with these, the blue has a slight aqua duochrome and the pink has a violet duochrome. I also like that the sheer highlight. I’m 48 and the browbone area is a bit droopy now, so I don’t like to use pale colors there because it makes that droopiness really stand out, so I’d use a medium shade and then lighten it up a little with a shade like that sheer highlight, so it works for me. I think the pink and blue together are too retro for me, so I’d mix it up with other colors I have instead of using this palette together.

  23. Nargis says:

I like this palette, but my absolute favourite is the I Got Good Jeans palette! i love the navy/gold combination /drools

  24. Sydney says:

Adore this on you – you look fantastic!
