Aww, I liked your rambly video. :) Thanks for posting it! I’ve been a reader for some time now, but I think I’ve only posted once or twice before?

Anyway, I wanted to help a chick out with the silicone situation. If it ends in -cone or -xane (like Cyclohexasiloxane on the list), then chances are great it’s a silicone. In fact, I can’t think of any thing else that ends with either of those four letter combinations that *isn’t* a silicone so…. Just so you know, it’s a handy rule of thumb. :) And you can always look it up later. That’s what the internets are for.

I won’t be able to use this cream (oh the breakouts…the horror!), or really any BB cream I’ve come across for the same reasons (they all have silicones – dammit!!), but it’s nice to know Garnier did a decent job. Even if they put fragrance higher than midway down the list. yeesh.

    • Thank you Sara!! It was the ‘cones (duh) I was looking for and couldn’t see… dimethicone etc. but didn’t know about the xanes! I shall keep my eyes peeled now.

Yes, it’s full-on fragant! It must absolutely honk without it LOL

    • Big thanks for your explanation on silicones Sara, it’s really helpful and I will try and remember -cone and -xane from now on! x

Any time! I got really interested when I purchased a sort of “base” for stretching my perfume oils out, way back when. I grabbed a “cyclopentasiloxane” and on the bottle itself were several other aliases that it went under, including cyclomethicone. After that I started looking up other -xane ingredients only to find they also were silicones. Is it just my imagination, or is there a downtrend in things like dimethicone and cyclomethicone on labels in favor of longer, more complicated silicone names like phenyl trimethicone and the monstrosity on this BB cream’s label? Are companies trying to fool us into thinking they’re not using silicones because they’re not sticking with the basics?

I’m only obsessive with knowing what’s in the stuff that goes on my face because it breaks out horribly with the wrong ingredients. :( Namely silicones, and to a lesser extent, sunflower oil. Though, to be fair, sunflower oil is only a problem when it makes up the majority of a moisturizer and I use it every day for a week. Silicones on the other hand need only one application and within two or three days I have bumps forming in all the applied areas. Long-lasting bumps that are a pain to settle down and sometimes turn into the really deep, painful guys. Yeah….so….I can spot a silicone from a mile away. :p

Hi Charlotte! I’m so glad you gave this a try, I’ve had mine for a while and I do really like it. I haven’t had the benefit of an Asian BB cream to compare, but I do like this. I used the Medium, which is a tad dark, but I know the light would be ridiculous on my warm skin tone. I have quite dry cheeks with an oily T, so I use the ELF HD powder over the T zone, and I have to say I love it. I still have to use a good concealer for the dark circles, patches and old acne scars, but I think it’s not bad at all. I probably would repurchase too, although I wish they did a colour between the light and medium!

YAY for another video :) hmm, I’ve been waiting for someone to entice me into buying this one (enabler lol). I’m not sure if this will work for my oily/combo (crazy) skin??

  4. Lily says:

Haha! Product you’d love to hate? 😛 I’ve been interested in BB creams for a while, but repeatedly hear they’re not great on oily skin so I’ve been putting off exploring! I think the actual Asian BB creams would be best for my skintone either way – it’s hard to find base make-up in the UK which is yellow enough for me -_-

  5. Jamilla says:

I really like this product! My skin is dry and it just laps it up! I have the Medium which is a tad too dark right now….

  6. Wendy says:

Thanks for your review Charlotte – you really made me smile :)

I tried this out a few weeks ago at Superdrug and came to the same conclusion as you; I felt that it was a bit too oily and didn’t give enough coverage for my liking. That being said, I do like quite full coverage and find that most regular foundations give less coverage than I want, so for people that are happy with light-medium coverage this would probably be perfect, either as a base or for days when they want a natural ‘no-makeup’ look.

I use Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in shade #21 (I’m approximately MAC NC15). It is a very good match for my neutral-cool toned skin. It gives medium-buildable coverage and is very moisturising, although not too much for my slightly oily t-zone. I absolutely love it; it smells wonderful (not too perfumed) and gives me an airbrushed-look finish, without being too heavy. If I want a more made-up look I use mineral foundation over the top. I’m hesitant to say it, as there’s always the possibility of finding something even better, but at the moment this is my ‘holy grail’ cosmetic product!

My daughters are big fans too – my youngest has extremely fair skin and uses shade #13, which she wears every day. She’s beautiful anyway (I would say that, wouldn’t I!) and this adds a radiant glow to her skin. My eldest daughter doesn’t like makeup (and yet I’m quite sure she really is my daughter!), but she likes to wear this to even out her skin tone, which is a little acne-marked, when she’s on duty.

As you can tell, I really love this product and can’t rave about it enough! I buy it on ebay, which can be a minefield of fakery, but use a supplier who was recommended by an asian blogger that my daughter tracked down, so I’m sure the product I’m getting is the genuine article. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to post links here, but I’d be happy to point you in the right direction if you’re interested. xxx

Can’t wait to try that!!! I loved their eye roll on im sure im gonna love this too!

  8. Rachel says:

I’ve had this cream a few weeks now and I love it. My skin is quite oily and this followed by some powder over the top lasts me all day.

  9. Leah says:

I love your videos Charlotte! You’re so honest and down to earth, and I love the way you struggled over pronouncing those ingredients :) I think anyone but a master chemist would! I *would* be swayed into buying this if not for the 2 shades business. I once bought a Garnier tinted moisturiser in the so-called ‘light’ shade, but it made me look like an oompa loompa because I’m a bit of a ghost. Actually my skin is a nightmare because I’m uber pale yet have ridiculously ruddy cheeks. Some kind souls have referred to me as an English rose, but I think I look more like a well-slapped botty! 😀

  10. Yey finally I get to ‘meet’ you! :)

I love that you shared your first BB Cream time with us, rather than trying it out before you filmed.. so interesting to see your anticipation and expectations and then your reaction to the results. I have never been interested in buying this but I might pick up a tube now! x x

  11. Kim says:

Ah, glad you think the same! I got some free samples of this and just thought it would be absolutely awful, I’d turn out bright orange etc. – but I was pleasantly surprised as well, the colour is a tad dark for my ghostly skin but it just glides on so well and blends very nicely into my skin! Didn’t have any nasty dry bits either! Just wish the ingredients list was more friendly :S I’ve heard a lot of people breaking out due to it!

  12. emily says:

I bought this on a whim at my local drugstore here in Germany – I would never normally go near anything by Garnier (cheap ‘global’ skincare is not my thing)….but I really, really like it. I need only a tiny bit to even out my skin and give me a glow. The thing to remember is that any more than a dot of it stays too greasy and gives no more coverage. It’s not buildable at all, but then it’s marketed as skincare so that’s fine.

One thing I’d like to say I find puzzling is that on my box it says it is suitable for the under 35’s only (there is a little sliding scale thing) and the model on the box has quite extensive redness and spots in the before picture…I think this would be disastrous for this skin type due to the high level of silicone slip and no real coverage – I’m 40 with clear normal/oily skin that just needs to be evened out a little and it’s perfect for me when I want a casual look. It’s not a replacement for foundation though and when I’m wearing this I don’t usually wear anything else.

All in all, pleasantly surprised, but why is it marketed as a product for young, problem skin, Garnier?

  13. Sarah says:

I love how honest you are. I’m pleased to hear this worked for you. G and I both tried it and found it too dark for us, but given how similar your skintone is to mine I might have to give it another whirl. Thanks for posting.
