Red Lip Series: Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick #107 (Wine)

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 19 - 2013

Wine is totally the new red. Or has it always been red?  Either way, in terms of the shade that’s been taking over my collection this winter, I’m definitely leaning more toward the merlot than the pillar-box.

Rimmel’s Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in #107 has been a blogger favourite for a couple of months now, the colour is fabulous… the formula not quite so amazing but acceptable for the price I guess.  I think that you can always tell a slightly draggy lipstick by looking at the tip of a used bullet.  You can usually see lip streaks and a little bit of graininess in the wax, see below…

I’m not sure that I’d repurchase any more from the range, they’re just a little bit too much like hard work on the lips.  The best way I can describe the formula is thus: you paint on a swipe across the bottom lip, smush your lips together and the line doesn’t budge… there’s just no glide at all.  You have to paint the whole lip, from the bullet… being extra careful around the lip-line.  This also means that it sticks pretty well but when it does fade, it does so unflatteringly, leaving a very prominent outer ring.

I know that there are a heap of raves all over the web… but I honestly feel that Rimmel could do better on the formula, it’s very “5 years ago”.  Mmattes don’t need to feel like mattes anymore, that’s one thing that 2012 has taught me.

Shame it didn’t teach me to stop buying lipsticks.

I thought I was alone in finding these difficult to work with! Sure, the wear is phenomenal, but I suspect sucking on a sharpie would leave an impressive stain too….

This colour works so well on you :). I agree with you on this, wine is the new red! I’ve been totally obsessed with this colour for the past few months, haha. I have the same lipstick in 107 but I honestly did not experience the tricky formula.

  3. Phoebe says:

Gorgeous shade, I really want to try some from this range.

  4. Icaria says:

I’ve only purchased one from this range and must say I was pleasantly surprised. It I wasn’t bad at all for the price but I agree, it’s not all that. It’s a nice range for colors I wouldn’t wear every day. 🙂

  5. Celine says:

    Suits you very nice 🙂

Absolutely love this post!! Beautiful lip color!!

  7. Kelly says:

Grainy lipsticks make me wear them for 5 minutes before I am wiping it off!

    Lovely colour though!

looks great on you! I’d just recommend you something a bit lighter for the brows with this new color, tried the new mac brow gels yet?
I have the darkest one for my dark brown hair and I must say I love it, they told me in store its gonna be perm 🙂

Question about the KM lipsticks: I noticed that UK bloggers have the ones in the red tube. Is this type only sold in the UK? In America, we have the Kate Moss lipsticks in the black tube. I have never seen the ones in the red tube.

  11. Rebecca says:

Strange, I literally just applied this lipstick then saw this post! I tend to just dab it over other lip colours to darken them a bit, rather than applying the whole colour on it’s own, it’s far too drying to wear like that! Especially on my lips.. they’re really suffering at the moment eeeek

  12. Barbs says:

I recently purchased this product and I didn’t experience the draggy effect, whatsoever I usually have to exfoliate bc of dryness but this gave me no problem at all. I get plenty of compliments from men and women. I love the color and the matte finish.

I’m glad you talked about the graininess I felt that too (& still feel it). I’m not a fan of the formula/application either but I love the colour (though I feel it makes me look/feel slightly like an old woman if I apply it full on). I also have 107 I didn’t know it was called Wine 🙂 Hehe now I can say Wine instead of 107 (makes me feel like I’m in a bond movie) Cheers.
