Dr. Hauschka shows us that Natural Makeup doesn’t = boring makeup

Posted by Lipglossiping On September - 24 - 2010

I don’t know about you… but when I think of ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ makeup… it’s all I can do to stifle the yawns that try desperately to escape from my body and expose my feelings.

So when I opened an email and was greeted with this London Fashion Week image…

…I was a little surprised to learn that it came from Louise Amstrup’s SS11 show, where the makeup was represented by none other than natural brand Dr. Hauschka.

Known more for their iconic Rose Day Cream than their colour palettes, I couldn’t resist having a closer look at some of their pieces when I found myself in Whole Foods this week.

I was particularly taken with this palette:

Part of this year’s Summer Impressions collection, the Cool Breeze palette is creamy, pigmented and interesting.  Quite frankly… pretty much all the things I didn’t expect it to be.  Though, I will never like having my lip products in the same palette as powders and all this loveliness comes at a price.  £40 to be exact.

Do you have any preconceptions about all-natural makeup lines – are my sterotypes out of date?

i adore dr hauschka skincare products but i’ve always been kinda uninterested in their skincare based on what i’ve seen in-store. i think the palette photo you showed looks kind of interesting though, as does the pic from the runway show….so maybe i will give them another look sometime! unfortunately their makeup is not as widely available, especially here in canada…

so much mix up between the word neutral and natural makeup as well. yay for dramatic makeup i say. I could not carry off the lower lashline makeup so low, but love the eyelid ‘activity’. mmmm i think you’ve just inspired me to try to recreate my own version of the panda eyes.

    p.s
    i love you.

youre right in the sense that more drugstore ‘natural’ brands feature more natural non-outgoing looking makeup & Shades think of Natural Collection and in some ways Physicians formula with their makeup thats like MAC MSFs which totally cannot be made cakey even in 10 applications however I think the brands that are higher end tend to be the ones that venture out more in the colour spectrum- dont get me wrong there are some ones that are reaaaaalllyyy nude and plain looking but think of BareMinerals.. with their full array of every colour in the colour spectrum and

Laura Mercier which in my opinion, opts for a more natural but glowly look. My Mums been shopping at Harvey Nic’s for years with the Dr Hauschka ever since i was about 6 (Now 14) But fairly recently she picks up less frequently as she likes Liz Earle a little more.

Thanks for this post and reading my opinion

I think natural foundation and eyeshadow is fantastic. I also like natural lip balms. The only type of eyeshadow I wear anymore is mineral eyeshadow. There’s soo many mineral companies out there now as well. I love the consistency of mineral eyeshadows, much better than traditional ones. And you can find pretty much any color you want. I think mineral eyeshadows come in more colors than most eyeshadows that big brand companies sell.
Etsy is really great for natural, handmade beauty products too, especially soap, lotion and perfume.

I am not keen on natural makeup – it stems a bit from the makeup snobbery of your previous post, certain brands bring certain images to my mind, Guerlain dry and dusty, L’Oreal a bit middle of the road, Clinique a bit boring (although have quite a lot of their stuff), and Dr.H is skin care for me through and through, also £40 is too much for me. I am a creature of habit and I don’t like it when brands start to do what I don’t expect of them, it confuses me – at my age it doesn’t take much. Jan

  7. Oh wow, I’m surprised too! Which is weird because I adore indie mineral makeup and know it can come in crazy bright colours, but big mainstream mineral makeup and natural makeup tend to bore me :O

I really liked the look of that kit so I clicked on the link to have have a look and I’m really shocked to see that the first ingredient in the eyeshadows in Talc!!!
Why bother paying extra when it has the same ingredients as high street products?
I am so disappointed with Dr Hauschka, I thought they were all about being healthy but apparently that’s not the case….
