IMATS London 2011 – The Damage.

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 31 - 2011

The dust is clearing and I’m surveying the damage that IMATS has done to my purse.  It could be worse, it could have been better.  I set myself a budget and exceeded it (of course).  But, I don’t feel gut-wrenching guilt and my child will still be able to eat (gruel) next month.

The haul.  The picture above is oddly missing a lip tar but I don’t care enough to retake it.

I bought a freestyle Yaby palette from MUABoutique stand (served by the awesome DvoraDvine no less! *swoon*) with the intention of filling it with random Yaby purchases throughout the year.  I had to pick up a couple of eyeshadows to start my collection off too right?

I made a beeline for Guru Makeup Emporium as soon as I arrived… (having sussed out which MUFE stockist had the best discount first of course).  I wanted to try the new Rouge Artist Intense lipsticks and picked out three that caught my eye.  I also grabbed the one of the new Uplight highlighters in #11 and another MUFE Aqua Cream for my collection.  Love them.

O to the doube C – I bought 4 of these last year and although I um.. haven’t really worn them much, I wanted some of the new shades as soon as I swatched them.  Now that I’m getting more comfortable with brighter colours and wielding a lip brush, I’m hoping I’ll reach for them more frequently.  If I don’t, I deserve shooting for being stupid and flahoolick.

INGLOT were offering a cool 30% discount, so although I wasn’t intending to indulge… I really got sidetracked by a few items.  Can you tell I kinda have a thing for lipstick yet?

Finally…

This one was actually a mistake.  An embarrassing one at that.

You know the infamous Face Atelier foundation that is supposed to be like “uhmazing”?  Well…. someone clearly wasn’t paying enough attention or was high on nail polish fumes or something.  The stand I bought this foundation from was called Make Up Atelier Paris.  Slight difference there right?  My brain saw “Atelier” and swooped before engaging.

Now, idiocy aside… I actually preferred the texture of this foundation to FACE Atelier’s after swatching at the FACE Atelier stand to compare.  This one feels lighter in texture but with that same silicone slip… I’m hoping this will be a good choice as the weather gets warmer.

.

So there’s my sins… I’m very pleased with them and if there’s anything you’d like me to review/swatch first, tell me and I’ll push it to the front of the IMATS haul queue.

Did you go?  What did you buy?

IMATS London 2011 – The Countdown Begins!

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 15 - 2010

Well, it’s just over a month now until the biggest makeup show in town rolls around again.

IMATS, which is produced by Make-Up Artist Magazine stands for International Makeup Artist Tradeshow.

I attended this year and will be doing so again next month – I thought I’d compose a little post for anyone who’s thinking of attending.

Wanna know what to expect?  Read on…

Primarily and most importantly… IMATS is a trade show for trade professionals, though (with the exception of Sunday morning) it is open to the general makeup-loving public.  If you’re thinking of going and expecting to see all the brands you’re familliar with in Boots, don’t.  It’s not Selfridges beauty hall.

What you can expect to find are some fantastic pro brands such as OCC, Yaby, Kryolan, Ben Nye, Paris Berlin, Hakuhodo, Graftobian… really, it’s a dream for discovering some amazing new products and my shopping list for 2011 is getting dangerously long.

£20 will gain you entry to the exhibit floor and claim any available discounts, £33 will let you hear the speakers discuss their craft and share their tips.

So what about these discounts?  The discounts vary from the unimpressive to the very good.  The average is around 20%, though obviously the exhibitors who offered greater discounts (some around the 40% mark) saw their stalls rammed with customers the entire day.

If you want to see a list of the exhibitors who will be at the show next month, you can check them out on the IMATS website.  If you want more specifics on show day discounts, I suggest getting in contact with the exhibitors directly a little closer to the day.

So apart from the shopping… what else is there?

Some of the exhibitors produce fabulous demonstrations that are total eye-candy to watch!  If you pay the extra to listen to the speakers, you get to benefit from the knowledge that the best in the industry have to share.

The speakers for this years IMATS are listed on the IMATS schedule, do keep checking back as they’re sometimes subject to last minute changes.  One word of advice regarding the speakers… make sure you’re there EARLY.  Last year saw some disappointed show-goers who couldn’t get in to Terry Barber’s class due to the sheer numbers that turned up.

The Make Up Museum which showcases some famous works from the top professionals will be returning this year.  I spent a good 10 minutes being completely grossed out by this little makeup masterpiece from last year’s museum!

The show runs for two consecutive days: Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th January and is held at Alexandra Palace in Wood Green (North London). You can buy your tickets in advance online and you should note that from this Friday (17th December), ticket prices will be going up.  Don’t delay!

[stextbox id=”custom” caption=”Lipglossiping top tips for getting the most out of IMATS London 2011″ ccolor=”ffffff” bcolor=”b0c4de” bgcolor=”dcdcdc” cbgcolor=”b0c4de”]~ Have some pre-conceived idea of the brands and exhibitors you want to check out.

~ Contact the exhibitors in advance to find out if they’ll be stocking the ‘must have’ thing that you’re after.  Don’t contact too early though, many won’t have decided what stock they’ll take/discounts they’ll offer until a few days before.

~ Set a budget, it’s easy to go overboard on the spends!

~ Wear comfortable shoes and lots of layers – I was freezing to begin with but roasting by the end of the day!

~ Arrive early to listen to the keynote speakers.

~ Get your shopping done first before taking the time to relax by checking out the demonstrations and chatting to the exhibitors.

~ Sharpen your elbows… the exhibit floor gets BUSY.

Will you be going to IMATS next month?  If you’re planning on attending, hope I’ll see you there!

MUFE Aqua Eyes 25 years Collection

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 13 - 2010

I picked this little set up at IMATS (I gave up on the collective haul post – they’ll be coming at you one by one I’m afraid!) from Guru Makeup Emporium who were offering a very decent discount!

5 mini versions of the very popular Aqua Eyes Pencils housed in a litle collector’s tin.

Colours included are: Matte Black (0L), Pearly Brown (2L), Blue with Green Highlights (12L), Shimmering Plum (4L) and Champagne (23L).

The pencils are heavily pigmented and apply smoothly on the waterline.  The champagne will make a lovely eye-brightener, and the blue is simply to die for.  They don’t budge from my lashline and sick to the waterline for a good few hours.

These are my first ‘pencil purchase’ since I went through my stash binning everything that wasn’t GOSH. I won’t be binning these 😉

Do you wear coloured pencils?

I paid £10 for the set.  MUFE Aqua Eyes Pencils retail in the UK for around £11.95 each.

IMATS London 2010 – In Pictures (Part 1)

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 1 - 2010

The day started well.  I slipped on a patch of ice outside Ally Pally and landed on my bum.  In front of people. Elegant-looking people.

My bag (containing my camera and lens) fell to the concrete and my fat bottom did the best iPhone-crushing impression it could muster.  Thankfully no phones or DSLRs were harmed in the making of this blush-inducing moment.

As intended… myself and some of my fellow IMATS London comrades were at the front of the queue ready for when the doors opened.  It was an EARLY start (you may have read my bleary-eyed tweets) but looking at the queues later on that morning, I’m so glad we made the effort.  Plus, it meant we made our purchases at the OCC, MUFE and Crown Brush stands before the crowds were 4 deep!

On with the show…

IMATS London 2010 – I’m here! I’m here!

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 30 - 2010

Well… I hope I am.

This post has been scheduled from earlier in the week… and by the time it pops up on your blogger page or in your google reader I’ll hopefully be hammering down the doors to Alexandra Palace shouting “Lemme in!”

Hey! Interesting fact… did you know that the world’s first public broadcasts of television were made from Alexandra Palace in 1936?  No… see, never feel guilty lurking about on Lipglossiping.com… it’s not just about the makeup.  You get an educashon here too 😉

So anyway, IMATS!

Word on the grapevine is that IMATS London 2010 has outsold any other show in IMATS history.  It’s gonna be busy!  Which is why I’m there when the doors open, ‘cos heaven forbid OCC runs out of lip tars before I get my snout to the counter.  I will not be held accountable for my actions I tell thee!

I’ll be tweeting ‘live’ from the show like the sad git I am, so if you wanna read what I’m getting up to and see some shoddily taken iPhone photos along the way, then make sure you’re following my twitter feed!

Much love, me xx

IMATS London – Enkore Makeup hits the Main Stage

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 14 - 2010

Sunday morning at IMATS promises to be a belter.

Koren from Enkore Makeup will be in attendance, offering a class on the “Wonders of Pigments”.

The blurb from the schedule reads:

Learn the advantages of carrying pure oxidized pigments and minimizing the amount of products in your pro kit. This class will show you how to quick-mix custom-blend foundations, using minerals for airbrush application, and how to custom-blend concealer, lipgloss/color, mascara, liner, and nail polish in seconds. A quick application technique with these custom blends will also be demonstrated.

As one of the most subscribed-to beauty gurus on You Tube, Koren knows his pigments from his primers and his reputation practically guarantees a great class.

Catch Koren at IMATS London on Sunday 31st January at 10.30am on the Main Stage.

…it’s the thought of the BIG Makeup Show coming to town in a month’s time!

IMATS stands for the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show and is produced by Make-Up Artist magazine.  It is held annually across 3 continents and 5 cities.

IMATS will be on at Alexandra Palace on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January 2010.

Some of the exhibitors I’m particularly excited to visit include:

Crown Brush, Eve Pearl, OCC, Embryolisse, Paris Berlin (love their liquid eyeliner), Yaby (dinky little shadows!) and PAM (who will be selling MUFE) oh no… now I’ve looked again, there’s more (like Fero Beauty for their Mavalas)… sigh… too many amazing exhibitors and a wishlist a mile long right?

There will also be some fab speakers on the day(s) including Terry Barber (M.A.C.’s director of make-up art for the U.K. and Europe) and Eve Pearl (an innovator of high-definition beauty and the Salmon Concealer®).

I’ve booked my hotel for Friday night, so I can get in when the doors open on Saturday morning – keen much?

Will you be going? You can purchase tickets from the Makeup Mag website here
