Favourite travel-sized beauty product?

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 11 - 2012

I was recently asked what my favourite beauty product is for travelling… the stipulation being that it had to come in under the airline-approved 3oz sizing (and available to buy in the U.S.).

A rather quick Google search translated that into UK-speak and declared an 85ml equivalent.  Here’s the article for the Conde Nast Traveler website:

As you can see, I chose Batiste (the handbag-sized version) – but it was interesting how many products I wanted to choose that weren’t available to purchase in the U.S. (Lanolips and Rituals Qi Serum both made my shortlist for travel-essential tinies).

It got me wondering… what do you never travel without?  It has to come in under the same 3oz/85ml rule!

I haven’t flown for 16 years! But even when we went to Disney last year (Euroteunnel) I didn’t even take make-up

I’m assuming this is the stuff in hand luggage. I work on the assumption that everything will be cancelled and they’ll loose my luggage so I tend to take everything I’ll need for two days or so.

I always french plait my curly hair for travelling so I have no need for hair products (other than a comb). I always take face wipes, spf moisturiser, refreshing eye gel, a lip balm, burt’s bees cuticle cream and deodorant. If I’m going to wear makeup I’ll wear eyeliner, concealer and powder- I tend to wear the minimum so that there’s less to go wrong.

Hmm, in Aus/UK I’m sure the limit is 100ml, I wonder what they let you get away with if you fly to the US…
I definitely take on face wipes(although never sure if they count as liquid?), and a tinted moisturiser, face powder, little Bloom travel-sized cosmetic kit (for applying once I’m about to get off the plane) and lots of moisturiser. And deodorant too, actually that’s probably my MVP along with wipes 🙂 Oh and toothpaste, those little white vials they give you on long journeys are disgusting!

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream for its’ versatility – i usually pick up a tube duty free when i fly

Actually, the US requirement for a carry-on is 100mL, 3.4 oz. When I went away 2 years ago, this was what the TSA site said. Face wipes, lipgloss and lipstick as well as polish didn’t count as liquid either. Cosmetics and the like go in my carry-on, so my HG would be my moisturizer.

My Lush solid shampoo bar and solid conditioner bar always drop in my carry on cosmetics bag, because hey, they’re not liquids. Also a Clinique mini travel bar of facial soap, because then if there’s no soap or shower gel in the hotel I’m OK (call me paranoid, but it has happened in the past). (In my checked in bag I pack a bar of Roger et Gallet soap in its case.) In my little plastic baggie goes my Alpha H Factor 50 daily moisturiser – the only facial sunscreen that doesn’t bring my spots out. Also face wipes, a teeny bottle of hand sanitiser, my Caudalie lip balm, toothbrush and toothpaste (travel sized tube), eye gel, a tiny sample sized bottle of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, my mascara, and some 5ml decants of my current favourite perfumes.
You can tell I’ve thought about this.
