Butter London – Rosie Lee NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 26 - 2010

Today’s NOTD is dedicated to the lovely Jen from NailPolishUK simply because I know that this is one of her favourite polishes.

How outrageously girly is that?  The thing about this polish is that it’s more than just pink glitter.  Well, it’s not… it IS just pink glitter… but it’s not stereotypical.  It has an edge to it that steers it away from being Barbie.  I think it’s the hint of rose gold.

I love it.  I hate removing it.  But… God, I love it.

It wears like Teflon too… I can keep this on my tips for a week solid.  Which is just aswell really ‘cos it takes that long to remove the bugger.

Butter London Rosie Lee is available to buy online from PowderRooms priced at £9.75 – A Christmas Cracker if ever I saw one!

ETA: I forgot to say! It’s pretty simillar to the infinitely more affordable Eyeko Chi Chi… differences: Rosie Lee is more opaque, the finish is smoother and it’s more sparkly.  But they’re both beautiful Rose/Pink Gold glitters!

GIVEAWAY TIME! 5 Sets of Body Shop Originals!

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 26 - 2010

It’s FRIDAY!!!!  And if you ain’t spending the day pleading with MAC to sell you a lipstick, then you’re probably doing more important things like working… or picking your toes.

But stop what you’re doing right now!  Come and enter my giveaway…

I have sets of 6 Body Shop Originals products to give away to FIVE lucky readers… the image above is just me messing about in photoshop… I dunno what ones you’ll be getting, consider it a retro pick n’ mix!

To enter my giveaway, simply leave a comment and let me know… which is your favourite Body Shop Originals product?

Have a flippin’ lovely weekend chicas!

So, Nicki Minaj’s personally designed pepto-(a)bismol pink lipstick is up on the MAC website today… for one day only.  Until next Friday.  And the one after that…

And the one after that… until MAC have bled their fans dry not only of their money but also of their patience.

Buying stuff from MAC… it’s like the 12 labours of Hercules.

I’ll (unsurprisingly) be passing on this.  I can’t even make All Styled Up work for me so I have no hope with this one.  Plus, I don’t shop on Fridays.  It’s against my religion (as of today).

Will you be picking this one up?

Leighton Denny – Embellish Me NOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 25 - 2010

Leighton Denny’s Embellish Me is a dark, inky purple that’s perfect for Autumn/Winter.  A smooth creme, it’s not the most exciting or original shade out there but what it may lack in imagination, it more than makes up for in opacity.

I get frustrated by these dark, vampy shades that apply all thin and streaky.  This, thankfully isn’t one of those shades.  Practically opaque in a single coat, it only took a light 2nd coat to top off and even out my application.

The above photo shows two coats with no top coat.  Drying time was also impressive on this Leighton Denny.  This is a perfect polish for people in a hurry.  Two quick coats, minimal drying time.  No fuss application.

Wear has been average… but remember this is without the added protection of a top coat.

I’m impressed!

Embellish Me (£11.00) is a limited shade from his Autumn/Winter Opulence nail collection and is available instore at John Lewis or online at QVC, Beauty Bay and other selected retailers.

My two most favouritest people.

Haus of Gloi Parkin & Aduwa (amongst others!)

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 24 - 2010

My second (or is it third – who’s counting?) Haus of Gloi order arrived a couple of weeks ago and included the limited edition scent Parkin and Aduwa from the permanent line.

I think by now, it’s confirmed that I’m a lover of the gourmand, foodie smells – particularly from this brand.  They simply do them so well.

I picked up a full size Parkin Pumpkin Butter, a mini size Parkin Bubbling Scrub, a full size Aduwa Bubbling Scrub and mini sized Saft Ernte & Pumpkin Queen Pumpkin Butters.  I basically scraped up the last of the Halloween offerings with this order.  I also made a separate order that contained just the Pumpkin Queen Perfume Oil but I seem to have mislaid it 🙁

Anyway… back to this order…

I’ve already talked about Pumpkin Queen and I won’t spend long on Saft Ernte (seeing as it’s barely available on site anymore) but suffice to say that if you’re a fan of Pumpkin Queen, you’ll like Saft Ernte too…. it’s a slightly peachier, sweeter version of Pumpkin Queen.  It’s a teeny bit *too* sweet for me… but not by much.

Parkin is still extremely gourmand… albeit darker.  In the jar, it’s all about the gingerbread… but once on the skin, it has a bitterness that comes from the black treacle.  The scent doesn’t last quite as long on me as Pumpkin Queen does but the formula is just as rich, moisturising and moreish.

Aduwa is part of the permanent line; described as: Sweet, hot, creamed ginger over a thick benzoin, creamy coconut milk.

I’ve only smelt this in the jar as I’m still finishing up my mini size Samhain scrub… but first impressions tell me that Aduwa smells good enough to eat!  The coconut is strong and true… none of this synthetic sun tan lotion coconut scent.  It’s like sticking your snout in a bag of dessicated coconut.

The next thing to come through is the creaminess… I was expecting a hit of ginger but it’s lacking a little.  This is pure coconut mixed through creamy hot milk.  Delightful.

My addiction to all things Haus of Gloi is well and truly compounded.  My Yule Tide order came through a couple of days ago… but I’m not even allowing myself a sniff until I’ve made some head way into these items.  I’m sure that won’t be too hard a task for me to manage!

Have you ordered anything from Haus of Gloi yet?

Neals Yard Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Serum

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 23 - 2010

There are two types of people in this world.  Those that eat McDonald’s gherkins with reckless abandon and those that peer at their open burgers, fingertips poised like pincers ready to remove the offending article.  Usually, those second type of people flick their gherkins (not a euphemism) in my direction.  LOVE them.

I can’t say the same for the scent of frankincense though.  My mother boarded at convent school and can’t get enough of the pungent resin which is said to contain healing properties that promote the well-being of both the body and the soul.

Neals Yard have based an entire collection on the aromatic resin and it’s at the very heart of their anti-ageing skincare range.  I’ve been trialling the Neals Yard Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Serum for the last 4 weeks and scent-aside, it’s been an absolute pleasure to use.

[stextbox id=”custom” caption=”Ingredients” ccolor=”ffffff” bcolor=”b0c4de” bgcolor=”e6e6fa”]Aqua (Water), Glycerin*, Sucrose distearate, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil*, Centella asiatica (Gotu kola) extract*, Palmitoyl tripeptide-5, Vaccinium corymbosum (Blueberry) oil, Curcuma longa (Turmeric) root extract, Sodium hyaluronate, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) oil, Citrus bergamia (Bergamot) peel oil expressed*, Citrus nobilis (Mandarin) peel oil expressed*, Tocopherol, Xanthan gum, Cetyl alcohol, Sucrose stearate, Levulinic acid, Potassium sorbate, Citral, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool.

*Organically produced ingredient. Natural constituent of essential oils listed. Made with 41% organic ingredients. This is a vegan product.

[/stextbox]

When I began to use the serum, I was looking forward to experiencing a continued reduction in redness (thanks to anti inflammatory ingredients such as Turmeric) and whilst I can’t say that my skin tone has improved further… I’m definitely not suffering from any increased redness despite external factors that would usually cause me problems.  The central heating has gone on since I’ve started using this serum and temperatures outside have dropped considerably.  On this count, I’m impressed.

It’s November now and I’d also usually be doing daily battle with dryness… I have a few drops of my Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream left but I’m not having to use it.  So far (touch wood), my skin… which would normally be parched above my eyebrows, under my eyes and around my mouth… is completely normal.  Can I put this solely down to the serum?

No, my moisturiser isn’t the same as last year and neither is my diet.  There are too many other factors that could be influencing my skin but my gut instinct is telling me that the immediate moisture boost I can feel this giving my skin is definitely helping to keep my skin hydrated day in and day out.

Above all else, Neals Yard Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Serum is a joy to use.  A thin, slightly oily cream that melts into my skin immediately hydrating and softening.  It leaves a non-greasy base that welcomes my night cream without demanding it.

After washing my face, I pat my skin a couple of times to remove excess drips and apply this while my skin is still slightly damp… I find that this is key to squeezing the full benefits from the product and makes all the difference to how soft and hydrated my skin feels after application.

At £39.50 for 30ml, it’s not an inexpensive product though it spreads so well (especially on damp skin) that I could probably eke out daily usage for an minimum of three months.

Neals Yard Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Serum is available to buy online or instore at Neals Yard.

Avon Winter Skin Tips with Nicky Hambelton-Jones

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 23 - 2010

NHJ, wearer of mega specs and gatekeeper of the secrets to looking at least 10 years younger shares some winter skin tips in conjunction with Avon.

Created to promote the Avon ANEW Clinical range, I’ve only ever tried the Avon ANEW Clinical Eye Lift which I liked but didn’t love enough to repurchase.  The cream part I loved, but I found the gel to be thoroughly ineffective.  I do have a friend who adores the derma-full serum (in the funny bottle) and swears that it works wonders on her visible pores.

I’d love to hear what you guys think of the range?

FOTD – Les 4 Ombres Chanel Tentation Cuivree Palette

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 23 - 2010

I’m still unsure about whether or not to go for Chanel’s Holiday/Christmas lipstick in Magnolia…. it’s a lovely medium pink but I think it might just be a little too shimmery… frosty-looking even.

Either way, I couldn’t be more in love with the Chanel Tentation Cuivree palette that I picked up last week.

I’ll do a proper post with close up and swatches but here’s a very quick FOTD to be getting on with.

Face:

Prori Coffeeberry Perfecting Foundation #1
Eve Pearl Blush Trio – Sweet Cheeks

Eyes:

Les 4 Ombres Chanel Tentation Cuivree Palette (2 darkest shades)
Boots No7 Exceptional Definition Mascara
Illamasqua Eye Brow Cake in Gaze

Lips:

L’oreal Color Riche Serum Lipstick in Beamy Plum

As usual I’m doing my ‘use the least amount of products I can get away with’ trick.  Only out of necessity rather than choice.  I’m also currently trialling Priori Coffeeberry Perfecting Mineral Foundation which I’ll be reviewing as soon as I can get a well lit before/after shot.

Have a great Tuesday beauty addicts x
