My New Digs!

Posted by Lipglossiping On February - 11 - 2010

I work from home and my workspace has been stupidly crowded for as long as I can remember.  You know the scene, papers piled high, things ‘filed’ under other things…

I finally got a new desk and have been able to get my priorities straight and move all my makeup RIGHT NEXT TO ME! OMG!

You have no idea how little proper work I’ve gotten done since I moved my makeup within playing distance.  Mr. Lipglossiping is wondering when the book-keeping is gonna get done.  Right after I finish playing with this lipstick dear…. (or like, NEVER! – mwuahahaha!!)

Ain’t it spacious? *spreads self across desk*

Those drawers on the right.  That’s proper grown up pay the bills work stuff.  The rest? MAKEUP and SKINCARE and NAIL POLISH and HAIR STUFF and all the other important things.  I better do some work, I can feel a *side eye* from Mr. L. burning a hole in the back of my skull.

Share your hair mares!

I’ve already told you about my triangle hair… and my spiral perm from 1992…

Now it’s your turn…

Aussie, Agassi and me want to hear about your hair mares!

Go on, tell me about your nightmare ‘dos!’

If I get five horror stories I’ll upload a pic of the spiral perm.  And let me tell ya, it makes Agassi look coiffured to perfection.

Is it that you are a minger?

Wondering whether you should be throwing out that favourite discontinued lippie lurking in the back of your drawer? Cosmetic guidelines have always been quite stringent with regards to shelf life…

Judy regretted not throwing that old cream foundation away…

Do you follow the guides?

Have a look… (red denotes how long it takes me to dump stuff)

  • Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year (if it looks/smells and feels ok, I’ll still use it)
  • Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months (12 months… I have a “thing” about cream compacts)
  • Concealer: 12-18 months (if it looks/smells and feels like new, I’ll still use it unless it’s in a compact…)
  • Powder: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Blush and Bronzer: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Cream Blush: 12-18 months (12 months… it’s the whole compact thing again)
  • Powder Eye shadow: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months (compact? 12 months)
  • Eyeliner: 2 years (gels – till they inevitably dry out, pencils – indefinitely)
  • Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months (um, till they run out?)
  • Mascara: 3 months (till they run out or become unworkable – yes, cardinal sin I know!)
  • Lipstick: 2 years (till they get that funky crayon smell)
  • Lip liner: 2 years (indefinitely)
  • Lip gloss: 18-24 months (yeah, probably no more than 2 years)
  • Nail Color: 1 year (till they become unworkable)

I think that a little common sense goes a very long way in situations like this.  If you live in a warmer climate, your cosmetics aren’t going to last as long.  If you buy mostly natural products containing less preservatives, you’re going to want to have a clear out more often.  If you share your cosmetics with your sister or best friend, then I’d be far more vigilant.  If anyone touches mine… they die.  I say trust your nose!

The oldest item in my collection is this 6 year old Bobbi Brown Palette:

My eyeliner obsession started with my Bobbi Brown Shimmering Eye Kohl palette which I bought back in 2004… I’ve dropped it twice (as you can tell – sob)

Tell me about your oldest cosmetic item? What is it and why do you still have it?

IMATS London 2010 – I’m here! I’m here!

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 30 - 2010

Well… I hope I am.

This post has been scheduled from earlier in the week… and by the time it pops up on your blogger page or in your google reader I’ll hopefully be hammering down the doors to Alexandra Palace shouting “Lemme in!”

Hey! Interesting fact… did you know that the world’s first public broadcasts of television were made from Alexandra Palace in 1936?  No… see, never feel guilty lurking about on Lipglossiping.com… it’s not just about the makeup.  You get an educashon here too 😉

So anyway, IMATS!

Word on the grapevine is that IMATS London 2010 has outsold any other show in IMATS history.  It’s gonna be busy!  Which is why I’m there when the doors open, ‘cos heaven forbid OCC runs out of lip tars before I get my snout to the counter.  I will not be held accountable for my actions I tell thee!

I’ll be tweeting ‘live’ from the show like the sad git I am, so if you wanna read what I’m getting up to and see some shoddily taken iPhone photos along the way, then make sure you’re following my twitter feed!

Much love, me xx

Don’t miss it!

I won’t say too much in advance, but I will leave you with an inkling…

Happy Saturday to you!

If you’re anything like me, you’re a blogger butterfly.  Nothing I like more with my morning cup of tea than a chocolate digestive good dose of my favourite blogs.

I’m nearing the end of my bi-annual inlaw visit (it’s been 13 days, 7 hrs, 35 minutes and 3 secs… but, who’s counting?) and I’ve got a lot of great posts coming up.  I also haven’t forgotten my advent giveaway winners which I will be posting up when I get home (heaven help the old ladies behind me in the queue at the post office!).

Why I don’t read beauty magazines…

Posted by Lipglossiping On January - 13 - 2010

That is all.

Go on… slap me! (gently)

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 27 - 2009

I’m a terrible blogger… I’m being eaten up with guilt, and it’s got nothing to do with that little shopping trip I took to John Lewis beauty hall just before Christmas…

You’ve been leaving me some lovely comments and I’ve been devouring them all like me a fat kid with chocolate cake… and that’s where it’s ended, with me sitting greedily in the corner wiping the crumbs from my mouth and then running away as fast as my trotters can carry me to lie in wait for the next slice (enough with the cake analogy already) round of lovely comments.

I plan to put this right straight away, so if you have left me any questions or comments that you were hoping for a reply to, check back over the next few days while I revisit all your lovely thoughts and add my nonsense in to the mix.

Monday Poll… on a Tuesday

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 22 - 2009

Things are hugely hectic at Casa de Lipglossing.  Leila appears to be coming down with a sickness and diarrhea bug just as we’re supposed to be packing up for a 325 mile trip to Mr. L’s parents for Christmas.  I’d love to have more time to update the blog, but time seems to be the one thing I have precious little of.

To keep things ticking over, I present you with a Monday Poll, on a Tuesday!  I used to love doing these and haven’t done one for aaaaages!!

1. Mood:

Fretful and anxious

2. Left or Right-handed:

I’m a lefty, I turn the paper sideways to write on it.  Apparently I’m not gonna live as long as you righties.  Something to look forward to.

3. Where do you consider home:

Hmmm… I feel at home here in Hampshire on the South Coast of England, but I feel equally at home in South Sydney, Australia.  I think I’m quite adaptable.

4. Three things you’re grateful for:

My husband and baby daughter, my health and my iPhone, dinner, makeup, nice nails, camera, stuff.

5. Eyes/Lips/Cheeks:

Eyes: Yesterday’s mascara *rubs*

Lips: Nothing

Cheeks: Nothing

Boring, I know… today I have been mostly doing the laundry.

6. Have you ever studied abroad?

Nope.

7. Do you collect anything?

Yes! Makeup, Nail Polishes, Avengers Memorabilia, Dust…

8. Last text you sent…

I don’t do texting… I’m the slowest texter on the planet.  I’d much rather make a quick phonecall.

9. Outfit

Jogging Bottoms and a semi-shapeless t-shirt.  Laundry day remember?

10. Weekly Goals

Get the family up to the North East of England without too much drama, eat as much as possible without putting on a single pound in weight and help my family enjoy Christmas despite us all being a bit under the weather.

I’d love to hear your version of the above, let me know your answers in the comments!

Christmas is a-coming!

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 16 - 2009

Hallo to my old readers, new readers, followers, passers by and those just in it for the goodies!

Hope you’re enjoying the run up to Christmas as much as I am?

Have you been good this year?  I have!

bad-santa

I’m heading to the in-laws over the festive period so I’m starting to wind my work down in preparation – hoorah!  Alas, I haven’t bothered with a pretty tree or decorations this year as we won’t be here and there’s surely nothing more depressing than coming home from holiday and having to take down the Christmas tree before you’ve even had chance to put the kettle on.

How are your Christmas preparations coming along?

Aussie Event – Girls Night Out – 3/12/2009

Posted by Lipglossiping On December - 11 - 2009

The third and final event for us lucky Aussie Angels (can I just keep calling myself that forever?) went off with a bang last Thursday night.

We were invited up to London to sample the capital’s nightlife.  Mahiki played host for the evening and the venue didn’t disappoint.  A tiki-esque hideout in the heart of Mayfair, Mahiki ticks all the right boxes.

My friend Vicky and I jumped on the train congratulating each other on how lightly we’d managed to pack for a night away… infact we were congratulating each other so vigorously talking so much that we very nearly got left on the platform.

Arriving in London with little time to spare, we headed straight for the Hilton at Kensington Olympia where Aussie had generously put us up for the night.  I managed to check us in without getting escorted off the premises for being a pair of scruffy oiks and we settled into our room to get ready for the festivities ahead!

Despite best intentions, we still managed to be late.  Vicky has always been the laid back one in our friendship.  Me? Well I was running round in full-on mentalist mode, arms in the air like a certain white rabbit out of Alice in Wonderland with echoes of “late, late! we’re going to be late!” reverberating around the room.

“Relax”. says Vicky, “You are so uncool”.  Like I need telling.

I felt a 100x better when we got on the tube at Olympia and met up with Hayles and Zoe who were also staying at the hotel and heading to the Aussie event.  If you can’t avoid being late… find as many people as possible who are also late and hide behind them.  It’s a philosophy I’m proud to call my own.

We were greeted at the club by a photographer (who I somehow managed to resist asking nerdy camera questions, I was *sorely* tempted to ask for some flash bouncing tips) and the lovely Emma from 1000heads.

We were lead downstairs into the cavernous depths of Mahiki and emerged blinking into a Polynesian paradise!  I was given a little black box which when opened revealed some lovely makeup goodies, the inimitable Aussie 3 Minute Miracle and a handbag hanger (I’m a little uncultured and had to be told what the hell it was before I embarrassed everybody by trying to pick my nose with it or something.)

Then it was Mojito time!! Followed by Pina Colada time!! Washed down with a couple of Mahiki Mai Tais and topped off with a Tiki Dick’s Super Space Martini.  By this time I’d forgotten how to pronounce my own name let alone the names of the cocktails.  Needless to say, they were very yummy and each one more enticing than the last.

Highlights of the evening? Semi-naked waiter – oh so tacky, and I’m absolutely not going to admit to perving.  (why have you put him down as a highlight then huh?)  Close-up magician – superbly charming and very talented, too much fun!  And treasure chests filled with an intoxicating mix of champagne, rum and a brandy and peach liqueur.

It was brilliant to be able to catch up with old friends and meet some friendly new faces too!

Alas, all good things must come to an end and as the night drew to a close the exertions of the day were catching up with me.  I bid my friends (new and old) adieu and headed back to the hotel.

Waking up the next morning I wasn’t sure which hurt more, my head or my neck (crick)… here have a photo.  If nothing else, it’s an advertisement for teetotalness.

The rest of the next day was spent shopping and mooching around town.  But I’ll tell you more about that in another post!

Credit for some of the photos goes to Sam and Zoe – I can’t seem to get mine off Vicky’s mobile – argh!

Check it!
