Pink Week! Elemis Think Pink Beauty Kit

Posted by Lipglossiping On October - 1 - 2012

Regular readers will be familliar with the concept of Pink Week here at Lipglossiping.  For the third year in a row, I dedicate the first week of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) to showcasing a selection of beauty products that have pledged financial support through their sales to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.  So without further ado…

What is It?

The Think Pink Beauty Kit from Elemis contains the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (30ml) in limited edition pink packaging, Pro-Collagen Lifting Treatment Neck and Bust ‘Boob Tube’ in limited edition pink packaging (15ml), and a 50ml bottle of Elemis Sp@Home Quiet Mind Relaxing Bath Elixir.  All presented in an Elemis pink cosmetic bag.

How much is it?

Elemis Think Pink Beauty Kit has an RRP of £32.50

How much of our money goes to supporting PINK projects?

Regardless of how many kits are sold, Elemis have once again pre-pledged a £10,000 donation to Breast Cancer Care.  That’s what you call putting your money where your mouth is.

How do I get it?

The Elemis Think Pink Beauty Kit is available to buy online from www.timetospa.co.uk or on counter at selected John Lewis stores.

We’re used to seeing beauty brands give up portions of their profits to charity, ten percent here – fifteen percent there and in spirit of recent Summer events, I saw a brand niftily donate 20.12% of proceeds for the occasion.

But how about 100%?  That one’s not so readily given away now is it?  Which means that when I heard about natural beauty purveyors Organic Surge giving away 100% of all proceeds from their latest hand wash to a Scottish children’s charity.

Well, that just commands attention doesn’t it?

Organic Surge have launched Helping Hand Wash in association with The Archie Foundation to help support sick children and their families in the north of Scotland.  Alan MacKenzie, founder of Organic Surge explains:

“When I launched Organic Surge over five years ago, I wanted to ensure the brand was built on a company ethos of helping others. Since the beginning our donations have helped support vulnerable children around the world, and so I am so very pleased to announce our partnership with The Archie Foundation.”

Whilst you’re washing your pennies down the drain along with the germs, you’ll be able to take comfort from the knowledge that those gently-foaming bubbles are aiding a great cause battling to provide specialist nurses to sick chidren, redevelop outdated children’s wards and provide specialist support and equipment to those who need it the most.

Helping Hand Wash is priced at £3.99 and is available online at Organic Surge.

Limited Edition Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel

Posted by Lipglossiping On July - 3 - 2012

Nana called, she wants her curtains back and she can’t get ITV any more.

I just don’t know… I mean, I’m not into design and I’m just about the least fashionable person I know, but this limited edition packaging by Laura Oakes just isn’t doing it for me.  What IS doing it for me, is the fact that it’s celebrating Elemis’ award-winning Papaya Enzyme Peel’s 10th Anniversary by funding vaccinations for children in Africa.

For every product sold, Elemis will provide a 5-in-1 Pentavalent vaccine to immunise a child in Africa against 5 leading diseases and they hope to donate 50,000 vaccines through this programme in partnership with charity SOCO.

Nana would totally approve.

Buy it on counter or online at TimetoSpa.co.uk, priced at £28.60

With most of Jo Malone’s iconic fragrances garnering inspiration and ingredients from nature, it seems fitting that they sow back into the soil some of the benefits that they reap from it.  Announced yesterday on their Facebook page is their partnership with UK charity Thrive who use the therapeutic effects of gardening to change the lives of disabled people.  The British brand are funding the much-needed regeneration of Thrive’s largest London gardening project: the Old English Garden in Battersea Park.

From this…

To this?

Well… time will tell, but the volunteer gardeners are keen to get their green-fingers stuck into the challenge: developing skills, confidence and additional wellbeing along the way under Thrive’s nurturing guidance.  If you want to learn more about the national charity, you can visit the Thrive website to discover more about their current projects.

If you want to follow the progress of the Old English Garden, log on to the Jo Malone facebook page where you’ll be able to see “how does their garden grow” with a weekly update.

Nail a world record with the London College of Beauty Therapy!

Posted by Lipglossiping On May - 8 - 2012

I first blogged about this challenge a couple of years ago, but the London College of Beauty Therapy are at it again and want to set another world record, this time with the help of nail guru, Andrea Fulerton!

So, just what do they have to do to reclaim the world record?  They’re going to attempt to paint and file 3000 volunteer’s nails in just 8 hours – that’s 375 pairs of hands every hour!

This all sounds like rather good fun but there is a more serious side to the proceedings and the students and staff at LCBT are also delighted to be using the occasion to help raise awareness for charities Ray of Sunshine and All About Eve.

So, what can you do to help?

If you’re available to volunteer your lovely nails, you’ll be very well received at the London College of Beauty Therapy, 47 Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7JP.

The challenge takes place in two days time on Thursday 10th May 2012 from 11am to 7pm, and they really do need as many volunteers as possible!  In addition to receiving your shiny new manicure, you’ll also walk out with a lovely goodie bag and the smug feeling that you’ve risen to the challenge.

Click to register your place at the event and follow @lcbtsalon on Twitter to find out if they really can nail it!

Back in the depths of December, a group of bloggers were treated to a fashion show from Fusion@London – an organisation which aims to unite students from across the capital whilst raising funds to support Cancer Research UK.

Next month, on the 25th and 26th of February Fusion@London will launch their first gala, which promises to be an inspiring combination of fashion, music and dance to be held at the Troxy, Limehouse.  The show has been designed by a creative committee who work alongside professional and student choreographers and designers to bring the show to life.

There is a real buzz and passion around the event, as evidenced by our sneak peek at the fashion show last month.

The dresses were flowing, the laughter was infectious and the glamour a-plenty thanks to some surprisingly edgy looks from mineral makeup gurus Sheer Cover.  All in all, the main event promises to be a spectacular occassion and all for a good cause!

BBC Children in Need Appeal Day at Boots HQ

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 19 - 2011

Thirty One years.  That’s how long the BBC’s Children in Need appeal has been raising money for disadvantaged children in the UK.  We’re all familiar with the annual BBC televised appeal which never fails to divide the nation into a love/hate camp when it comes to Friday night TV viewing, but the truth is that the vast majority of the money raised actually comes from the donations outside of this, given both before and after the live telethon.

I was contemplating this as I sat on the train to Nottingham on Thursday evening.  Well, if I’m thoroughly honest, I was also obsessing over how old I felt knowing that I’d been on this planet for all but one of the years that the appeal has been running.  Aside from this though, I was feeling rather excited to be heading up north to take part in the Boots HQ fundraising day, held annually for their employees at HQ.

The first thing that struck me as I walked through the doors to reception (other than, woah BIG) was the noise.  “Hang on!”, I thought, “This doesn’t sound like a place of work!”  Turns out, I was right.  Apart from a couple of grumps glued to their computers (I would tell you which department had the biggest bah-humbug ratio but that would be mean) there was very little work going on at Boots HQ yesterday.  Wanna see?

Does this look like work?

Or this?  No.  Bunch of slackers, It wouldn’t surprise me if I can’t get my hands on my Meal Deal next week ‘cos the Meal Deal team were too busy at the roulette table.

In fairness, all this nonsense and frivolity came at a cost to those taking part who valiantly dug deep and surrendered their pennies for tombolas, raffles, home-made cakes, wii dance-offs, and bingo!

I will neither confirm nor deny the reports that the above table was raided.  Not by me of course.

The lesser-spotted Blush Bear – I was tempted to ask her if it was NARS Amour but I thought I might look a bit silly.

It wasn’t long before my partner-in-crime Modesty Brown and I had spotted the “Beauty Salon”, a little setup that included the option to indulge in Nail Rock manicures and Eylure false lash applications.  We paid our pennies and jumped in the queue, eager for a little pampering in the home of, well, pampering!

Modesty Brown put together a little video of the nail wraps being applied which I’ve promptly stolen and included below because it shows how quick they were to affix!

All in all, it was a grand old day and I spent the train journey home feeling like a 6 year old who’d overindulged on fun, sweets, and a bit of wonderment.  Wiped out!

As we were leaving, I heard the bingo caller announce that in the few short hours he’d been shouting about the two fat ladies, the bingo bits alone had raised well over £1000.  Boots have been working alongside BBC Children In Need for the past eight years, and have raised more than £4 million to date.  But, I’ll leave you with the super-hero of the day, aside from all that charitable stuff, I dunno how this fella copes when he needs a wee.

For details on how to donate to Children in Need, find more information on the BBC website.  Thanks for having me Boots!
