…Featuring: Beauty’s Bad Habit

Posted by Lipglossiping On August - 30 - 2011

Lily is a 19 year old beauty blogger hailing from one of my favourite UK cities, Manchester.  She has a penchant for indie cosmetics, inspiring looks and creating inventive ways to store your makeup!

Since first stumbling across Lily’s blog, I’ve been transfixed by her tutorials – she has the kind of creativity I could only dream of aspiring to.  Don’t believe me?  Read on as Lipglossiping.com features:  BeautysBadHabit

.

Take some black eyeliner, a leopard and an electric guitar, blend them together and what do you get? A freakin’ rock ‘n’ roll smokey eye, that’s what!  Or a really big mess…try explaining that one away to your insurance company.

1. Apply your eyeshadow primer as usual.  Cover your entire lid with a soft, black eyeliner and blend upwards just a tiny bit past the crease.  Don’t worry if it’s patchy, it will be covered up soon!

2. Pat a deep, shimmery eyeshadow over the black.  You can use any colour you fancy, purples and golden browns look great with this look, too.

3. Now apply a matte highlight colour downwards from directly beneath the eyebrow.  Applying the highlight colour first makes it easier to blend past the crease in the next step…

4. Use the same deep, shimmery colour on the lid to extend the eyeshadow shape upwards past the crease.  If you’re unsure of how to shape your eyeshadow, use your eyebrow shape as a guide.  If you don’t want to add leopard print to your look, skip to step seven.

5. Squiggle some pale coloured dots, dashes and ‘C’ shapes above your crease.  Apply more at the outer edge and use fewer as you near the centre of your face.  I’ve used eyeshadow mixing with Illamasqua sealing gel, but coloured liquid eyeliners are definitely an easier option!

6. Outline your dots and dashes at the outer edges. You don’t have to be neat or even – how uniform are a leopards spots, after all?!

7. Extend the eyeshadow all the way around the eye.  Apply eyeliner to the waterline – I used a white and pressed the same pale blue eyeshadow I used for the dots over the top.  You could always use the usual black, though!

8. Apply mascara or false lashes and fill in your eyebrows.  If you decide to use falsies, opt for ones which aren’t very long, otherwise they will cover your leopard design up!

9. Bask in the glory of your awesome eye makeup 🙂

I finished off this look with peachy pink blush and a pink toned nude lipstick for a balanced and fresh finish. I’m not listing the exact products I used throughout since they’re not especially unique, you can pick up similar shades from any make-up company!

See what I mean about the talent?  Fiendishly awesome, thanks Lily!!

A Bronze FOTD

Posted by Lipglossiping On June - 26 - 2010

Nothing screams Summer like a warm bronzed complexion with copper accents.  Bronze scares me in so many ways!  I love metallics and I adore golds… but bronze?  It’s a touch red… that little bit bolder no?

Bronze and copper totally brings out the greens lurking in your iris though.

Did I tell you that I finally found a bronzer that I can apply with my eyes shut?  Guerlain Terracotta Light Bronzer in 01 Blondes.  If you’re as pale and cool toned as me and think bronzer isn’t for you?  Shut Up.  Just go and try it.  I wish I’d found it years ago.

I’ll do a proper review on it soon…

Anyway, the eyes…

I swished my Laura Geller Eye Rimz in Bewitching Bronze all over…. yeah, 1 colour.  Bite me.  I’m a lazy bitch most days, I’ve got approx 549589430 eyeshadows and 50% of the time (unless I’m showing off) I just grab one shade and go.

But check out the eyeliner! I don’t even know if it goes with the shadow… I don’t really care ‘cos it’s HOT!

Guerlain Divinora Liquid Eyeliner, I think they’re discontinued now.  The colour is immense, the packaging beautiful… the formula a little gloopy and slow-drying… but whatever, the colour. is. great.  I’ll have to start stalking eBay.

Are you stalking eBay for anything discontinued?  Do you do that?

EOTD – Winter Berries

Posted by Lipglossiping On November - 24 - 2009

This week feels like it’s dragging… and it’s only Tuesday!!  Let’s have a quick Eye of the Day for a few minutes distraction…

Eyes:

Inner Corner: B Never Too Busy… – B Delight
Lid: BarryM – #88 Winter Berry
Crease: E.L.F Mineral Eyeshadow – Royal
Outer V: NYX Ultra Pearl Mania – Charcoal
Mascara: Rimmel Sexy Curves – Black
Eyeliner (1st Layer): MAC Fluidline – Silverstroke
Eyeliner (2nd Layer): eBay Infinity Liner – Black

Don’t know if it’s the ‘right’ thing to do, but I love layering my eyeliner like this.  I’m a total eyeliner fiend and have so many, it’s surely the only way I’ll ever get through them all!

Seriously, it’s a great way to wear a pop of bright colour along the lashline, without commiting yourself to making a statement with it.  I often wear gold and blue eyeliners in this way.

Ok, that distraction worked for about 40seconds… hurry up Hump Day!

FOTD Kryolan Shades Palette in Santiago

Posted by Lipglossiping On September - 22 - 2009

A couple of weeeks ago whilst killing some time waiting to head off to the Maybelline event… Myself, Sian, Sophie, Lydia & Leanne spent a little time browsing Charles Fox in Covent Garden.

I spied upon this little palette and loved it’s metallic sheen  and wearable Autumnal shades.  Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a Kryolan “Shades” Palette in Santiago.

Pretty no?  I love the inclusion of the dark blue over there on the right… great addition.  And the brush that comes with the palette isn’t completely useless either which is more than refreshing!  I can’t remember the exact price but it was around £15.

Here’s yesterday’s FOTD using the above palette.  Apologies for focusing on the wrong eye & then being too lazy to retake.

FOTD – Face of the Day – Purple

So I’m getting a little braver – go me!  Still nowhere near as accomplished or imaginative as some of you lovely ladies, but – baby steps!

eotd1005

As you can see, with this FOTD – the focus is on the eyes.  There’s a slick of sheer lipgloss there but it’s barely pigmented and again, I’m crap at making my blushes show up.  I either go too subtle or all out Bozo the clown stylee – grrr, it’s something I really need to get the hang of!

eotd21005

I can’t bring myself to apply above the crease either… I always end up attacking it with a q-tip.  It just doesn’t suit me – I look in the mirror and shout “Eurgh, garish – gerrit off!” – and yet it looks so lovely on other ladies.  Maybe my eyes are too deep set to carry it off?  Maybe I’m just a big pussy who doesn’t deserve to own any makeup if she can’t wear it proudly and unashamedly – I’m on the fence with that judgement.
